Just wondered what people think of the departure of Gooch and who should replace him?

I think Gooch is probably past his best, and England's batting has not been great in the past 12 months. That's not all Gooch's fault, but it may be time for new blood.
I thought Graham Thorpe was on the ECB payroll - or am I dreaming that? He might be a good candidate.
Trouble is - a good batsman doesn't necessarily make a good coach.

As our batting appears to have got worse not better think sadly it was time to say goodbye. Do we really need a batting coach, might it not be confusing if England's batting coach gives different advice to a player's county batting coach?

That's a good question, to be sure, Mrs D. But you've already exhausted my knowledge of batting coaches. Perhaps someone else can explain.
