No shocks, or surprises, looks a decent group from what I've read. What's happened to academy graduates Jonty Jenner and Daniel Doram? Have they left Sussex, I've seen nothing about contract offers, though I'm aware that means little given the time it takes our PR machine to crank into action Would be nice to know what's going on with those two lads

No surprises there and all selections well deserved. Are we not bothering with the girls anymore? Certainly if I was selecting 12 I would have selected Flora Bertwistle, Ella McCaughan, Hollie Young, Ella Bourne and Ariana Dowse. They describe Gordon as a batsman but his performances of note to date has been as a seamer.

A very good move to have two separate Academy setups for boys and girls.

Two late additions: Tom Clark (Ardingly) and Will Collard (Hurstpierpoint) www.sussexcricket.co.uk/news-1/academy-update-sussex-add-further-players-to-their-academy-intake-for-2017Both included because they impressed on the Academy tour of South Africa last December. These schools, and others, are now the modern equivalent of how the monasteries affected mediaeval society. They provide a slender chance for the gifted child to progress beyond the mundane. Without their money, and hence the facilities, the talent has almost no chance of being recognised. Good job we live in the affluent South-East.

Without their money, and hence the facilities, the talent has almost no chance of being recognised. Good job we live in the affluent South-East. 16 year old opening batsman Tom Clark came close to making my list of 12 which included boys and girls. However, based on that composite list I couldn't say he deserve a player ahead of Flora Bertwisle, Ella McCaughan, Hollie Young, Ariana Dowse and Ella Bourne. Tom Clark opened the batting for the Under 15 and scored three fifties as well as taking 13 wickets. 17 year old Will Collard is a leg spinner who impressed in 2014 and 2015 by taking 30 wickets and 20 wickets but only 8 last year. He was somewhat overtaken in 2016 by Scott Lenham and Joe Pocklington.

All our top order batsmen Haines, Ward and Clark, appear to be left handers, are there any top order right handers coming through?
