Appointed 'sports director' at Warwickshire.
Weird title, for sure... but that is his offical designation and BBC, Telegraph, Guardian, The Times etc all ran with it.
But Cricinfo has decided not to recognise the title and has taken a policy decision to call Giles 'director of cricket'.
Is cricinfo setting itself up as the Fox News of the sporting/cricketing post-truth world ?

Is Giles going to be responsible for sports other than cricket? I think we should be told.

According to this Telegraph article ( www.telegraph.co.uk/cricket/2016/12/27/ashley-giles-appointed-warwickshires-sport-director-part-management/)title and appointment were part of a management overhaul that included a new first team coach and an elite performance manager. Perhaps there is some arcana of Employment legislation that required a new title to go with a revised salary package and they wanted to differentiate from his previous role as Warwickshire Director of Cricket to avoid any legacy entitlements? Perhaps there is a reader of this forum who is well-versed in these things, maybe as a former HR manager and now independent consultant who could enlighten us?

Yes, please, please reassure us that this isn't just a piece of PR puffery.
