Here's an odd bit of entirely bogus news. This morning the redtops were carrying this story www.thesun.co.uk/news/3186370/mustafa-bashir-cricketer-leicestershire-spared-jail-assault-wife/ about an ageing Pakistani cricketer who had violently abused his wife and linked it with a story that he had a contract offer with Leicestershire, and clearly implied that the man had escaped prison because of his cricketing credentials. Leicestershire responded with this message Mustafa Bashir Leicestershire County Cricket Club are aware of stories that have been published this morning regarding Mustafa Bashir. The club are bemused by these stories. Any references to Mustafa Bashir signing or being approached to sign for Leicestershire County Cricket Club are completely false. The club have never spoken to Mustafa Bashir or an agent, nor offered a contract to the player. So where did this stoty come from and who is the improbably and unfortunately named Mustafa Bashir? According to Cricinfo he, or someone of that name, played one List A matchg for the Islamabad Cricket Association in 2001/2, scoring a duck and bowling 3 overs for 18 runs. It would be monstrously unfair to Leicestershire to assume that was the best overseas player they could get, so is this another Adrian Shankar type who tried to get off his sentence by coming up with a story about his cricketing prowess?

I must remember this wheeze when stopped for speeding en route to Canterbury. Rushing to sign professional forms there. I must remember to cover the Zimmer on the rear seat though.

"Lawyers of Mustafa Bashir, 34, told the court he had been offered a contract by county cricket champions Leicestershire as a professional player shortly before his arrest"
Has he got his sports mixed up? Did he mean Leicester City?

For 18 months www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-39529714" The court heard a sports agent had written a letter to the earlier hearing saying Bashir "had a very bright future ahead of him" as he had been selected for Leicestershire.
The sports agent, who the new defence team said had "mistyped" the letter to court, has since been spoken to by police, the court heard."
I hope the sports agent isn't representing any other cricketers. Surely the PCA should take some action, like naming and shaming, to avoid any more "misrepresentation".
