I seldom look on the official Surrey messageboard now (but then neither do Surrey fans - 53 members, 581 posts in all) but in an idle moment I've just looked there and come up with this corker: Dernbach to Sussex? "Got told by a Sussex member today that the rumour at the County Ground is that JD will be at Sussex next season."
Who is the heartless person who has aroused false hope in our benighted chums at Surrey in this cruel and callous way?

Would prefer Meaker who also is allegedly unhappy.
As Jonboy says we need some new blod. What has made it hard is those we have put faith in with longer contracts have really not delivered this season( anyon,Liddle, hatchett)

Hatchett on the other hand has flattered to deceive and not delivered on his early promise.

Why the hell would we want Dernbach? I can think of a million players I would rather sign! Robinson should be assigned to a mental institution if he thinks Dernbach is the answer. To be quite frank if Dernbach is the answer then you have to ask what is the question.

The talk at guildford today is that Kent also want him to replace Mark Davies who is retiring and Bollinger who won't be returning, but that he will only move to a div one side.

Is Dernbach in a position where he can say he only wants to join a division one county when he is not even good enough to get into a second division side? I can't think of any reason why we would want him but I think of a million reasons why we wouldn't!

I asked surrey members and they said he's been injured. Came back two days ago in t20 and instantly got injured again and didn't bowl in the match. Otherwise he's still a first choice seamer and took 5 wkts in his last lvcc game I'm told

To be quite frank if Dernbach is the answer then you have to ask what is the question. Now now Martyn...you said the same about Jordan anyon ,magoffin and Lewis ( and even Mushy)all of whom you described as surrey rejects. History has shown mark robinsons judgment to be be better than yours and yet you insist on being disrespectful to him and using intemperate language. It is easy to say sign proven players ..but Robinson has to find players who are not proven successes and get the best out of them...he has to take chances and it isn't always a success... anyways it is not at all likely at the moment that Jane will be signed and I would prefer Meaker... Let's wait and see who he signs and then criticise when it turns out unsuccessful like Miller. Don't have apoplexy yet.

Like Sussex need another injury prone seamer! The problem with Dernbach is that the attitude and application isn't there. With Jordan and Magoffin it certainly is and through their own hard work and determination they have both been a huge success. He is just not a Sussex type of player. Magoffin, Anyon, Mushtaq and Lewis weren't at Surrey very long and so can hardly be described as Surrey rejects. Jordan had injuries. Reuniting Dernbach and Hamilton-Brown would not be wise. I too would rather sign Meaker.

The Surrey messageboard seemed to take the tone that he'd been dropped and there wasn't a lot of sympathy for him.

Surrey prepared to release him because they think in curran and dunn they have found a pair who can open the bowling for next ten yrs. Just repeating the goss from some very gossipy surrey members around me who seem to prefer gossiping to watching the cricket!

Hh he broke down in first inns of leics match and then had a month on treatment table. According to surrey member Hugh sitting next to me. You know better than to believe the crap you read on message boards!

I would be surprised if we signed dernbach and if he came good....would have guessed that Harris and Meaker both had more potential.but I learned long ago that I don't know enough to have a strong opinion. I do recall wondering about why we signed mushy after he took no wickets for surrey against us in a match in which mark Davis took a six for. I think Chris Adams took credit for that.
