Ahead of this first technically first-class game our opponents are currently playing Hampshire, for whom Michael Carberry scored exactly 100 on his return to cricket after his cancer diagnosis. He is enormously and justly popular for his bravery. Just consider what else he has encountered in his long career: frustrating periods at his first two clubs, Surrey and Kent, then breaking through to the England side only to be disgnosed with blood clots to the lung. On recovering from this he fought his way back to the team for the last and worst of Flower's tours, to Australia, where his batting average was better than Bell or Cook.
Two other interesting names are also in the current match for Cardiff. Aron Nijjar has played for Essex as a slow left arm spinner for the last two seasons, in the first of which he was preferred to Panesar. Kamau Leverock has an interesting pedigree. He is Bermudan, has played one-day internationals and T20s for Bermuda and may have played on the same side as Delray Rawlins. He is the nephew of Dwayne "Sluggo" Leverock, the enormous left-arm spinner who delighted everyone by his antics in the 2005 ICC trophy, falling like a mighty redwood tree as he took a catch and then getting up for a remarkable, ground-shaking celebratory run.

That name rings a bell, I'm sure he's played for our academy sometime? Coverpoint would know.

That name rings a bell, I'm sure he's played for our academy sometime? Coverpoint would know. Adam Barton, Tim Moses and Callum Guest all came through the Sussex system. Team v Cambridge Nash Finch Van Zyl Wright (c) Evans Brown (+) Jordan? Wiese? Philander? Archer Magoffin If Jordan, Wiese and Philander aren't available I would play Garton, Whittingham and Robinson.

117-2 at lunch and two of the new boys, Rawlins and Van Zyl seemingly played-in at 20no and 16no. Should be an interesting afternoon. Anyone there to give feed back?
