I learnt today that 'allegedly' both Laurie Evans and Ajmal Shahzad recommended Burgess to Sussex after coming across Him in the past. The one that almost got away after trials with Lancashire and Leicestershire failed and led him to joining the amateur ranks. I agree Burgess deserves a contract on his recent performances. He spent three years at Loughborough and got runs against Sussex on his f/c debut in 2014. I was surprised Leicestershire let him go. He has a f/c batting average of 49.

joe,
there are no excuses for our captain who has again failed to impress.
It is an important year for Luke Wright. Last season was a right off due to his injuries, so he can be forgiven for his overall below expectation performances, but this year there are few excuses and he must prove that Captaincy improves his batting rather than stifling it.
All top Captains are able to raise their standard, especially in team battling scenarios where the 'Captain's innings' must prevail. Chris Adams was good at this. Ben Brown also impressed at the end of last season when taking over the captaincy for the second time.
Fingers crossed.
