So that's how you win games! Batsmen get runs, bowlers take wickets, fielders do things smartly. Simple really.

Today sets the bench mark and level that Sussex are going to need to maintain a challenge in the Royal London Cup. I thought the fielding was top rated today the icing supplied by Mr Archer out deep. I was standing about 10 yards from where he plucked a beauty out of the nite sky.
Congrats to Mark his back room staff all the players and the amazing ground crew
Nice glow around the 1st Central come 7 pm !!
Keep it going.

A much improved all round performance today, a pleasure to watch. Ground fielding and catching top notch and a good messured innings from van Zyl. Archer and Briggs the pick of the bowlers. 2 points and we go third in the table.

A huge sense of relief erupted from the County ground this evening. This was only our 2nd win in the 50 over tournament over the last 3 years. I echo the sentiment of others. The club's performance today must be the standard for the rest of the season.
Great to see Van Zyl showing glimpses of his former International form and Ben Brown who is maturing as a top Sussex cricketer; while Wiese is beginning to offer a consistent all-round quality.
Be patient and our club may well be turning around their fortunes.

Luke Wright's form continues to be a worry. Is it inconceivable for him to spend some time in the 2's? I think he may benefit from a few games away from the pressure of the 1st team and captaincy. I remember at the beginning of last season he said in interview that he wouldn't give players a chance in the 1st team unless they were regularly scoring 80+ runs in the 2's. By this reckoning Wright should be stepping aside for Salt.

Evans, with a single figure average is probably the most vulnerable to loose his place to Salt, who has scored consecutive hundreds for the seconds. It's all very well Wright saying that, but in reality, we don't have too many options.

Let's define terms here; are we talking about championship cricket, where Evans has been only too fallible, or white-ball where his quick 40 was the most accomplished performance in the circumstances in the famous "narrow loss" against Soimerset?

Bat first and win, coincidence? Maybe. Facts are, we have a decent record when we bat first and an appalling one when we chase, across all short forms. We've always been setters and stranglers in my opinion. It was only Glammy though.
Now is the perfect time to bring in Salt and we'll be missing a trick if we don't. Frankly, he could come in for three or four but I'd bring him in for Evans, a man who is a T20 player only for me.
Wright used to bat at three in this comp, and did so very well. I would just push everyone down one place and open up with Nash and Salt. The biggest thing that will help with Wright's form is the team winning despite it.

I agree. We've always been much better at batting first and then building pressure rather than chasing. It's what gave us a lot of success in T20 over the last decade. Set a reasonable score then bowl Beer and Yards, it worked rather well. Whenever we chase we seem to capitulate hilariously, see last years T20 at Hove against Hampshire for a prime example. The problem is that chasing is trendy at the moment and also any chance of rain generally makes it a better choice to bat second. EDIT: Some stats to illustrate the current trend for chasing. 88% of toss decision in the 2016 IPL were to chase. From 2014-2016 its 69% - So there must be an upward trend. www.sportskeeda.com/cricket/advantage-batting-second-ipl I reckon this year its just as high. I wonder if there is any deep seated research going into these decisions or the teams just prefer chasing now? Obviously T20 is a bit different but the trend seems to carry over to other LO cricket, the England ODI side always seem to want to chase.
