Does any one know if you need to get tickets in advance for this game ? I didn't need to for the tour match v Pakistan last season but Sussex claim tickets are going fast for this game.Thoughts ?

I think if you want hospitality or a designated seat then you need to get a ticket. I'm sure they'll be general entry tickets on the gate.

Does anyone know the official take on this match?
Is it list A? Will it be XI a-side?
I do hope we don't play a load of kids (even though would be good to give a few a run out) given the marketing effort that has gone into this.

I thought this thread would be more suitable in the Matches section.

Given that the seniors have been sat about drinking tea all day, well that should reinforce the need to take it seriously. Always room for a couple of kids though, especially as we have some good ones. Maybe rest Archer and Van Zyl, bringing in Garton and Salt. Why Garton hasn't played in the last few anyhow is beyond me.

Garton broke his thumb in the Surrey game.

That was beyond me Joe. Why's he been in every squad since? That is also beyond me.

That was beyond me Joe. Why's he been in every squad since? That is also beyond me. I think because it was a break to his non bowling hand it was hoped he'd be able to play but obviously he'd also have to hold a bat comfortably and field so it's beyond me too!

As it's a 2:00 start, we'll have the benefit of an up to date weather forecast before we decide whether to make the journey.

Quite a good balance struck in the squad announced for the game www.sussexcricket.co.uk/news-1/preview-sussex-welcome-south-africa-to-hove-tomorrow-for-50-over-tour-match: Will Beer Danny Briggs Michael Burgess (wkt) Harry Finch George Garton Chris Nash Delray Rawlins Abi Sakande Phil Salt Ajmal Shahzad Stiaan van Zyl Luke Wright (c) Inevitably there are players that they won't want to risk being injured with the Durham game only a couple of days later, and we can only hope that Brown and Magoffin are on the road back to fitness and that Archer and Wiese are being rested after playing every 50 over game.

This squad has the right idea. Resting the seam bowlers (Archer, Wiese) and letting the batsmen try to gain some more time in the middle while resting those nursing injuries.

Just checked the BBC forecast and the good news is the weather is improving for tomorrow. Instead of a band of rain, now a few local heavy showers. It seems the heaviest precipitation has arrived a day earlier than first suggested. So, this is really good news for Sussex. Given all the hard work and organisation the club have placed into this match, I really hope we can get a reasonable number of overs in. www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2654710?day=1Meanwhile, the South Africans arrived at Hove today. Chris Nash has a Benefit Dinner in the Boundary Rooms tonight which the Proteus have been invited to. 140 people, Ed Giddins carrying out the auction; roving mics and informal chats with the players. All sounds fun. So, that means no South African outdoor nets today; plenty of booze tonight; and tee-total Sussex may have a chance of a win tomorrow!
