What a joke selection that is So much for squad depth

I think calling this a first team fixture is a joke. It should not be first class. Sussex should not be charging for entry or parking. I expected to see Brown, Machan, Nash and Robinson. Instead we have four uncontracted players (Smith, Jenner, Barton, Hutson).

Make your mind up Sharkey, I thought you'd love seeing a team full of youngsters being given a chance.

Billy Beer opening. I might go on Friday if it's still going.

I'm only following from afar but it looks as if we're showing some fight with the bat.
Great to see two exciting 19 year olds forming a partnership out there against a quality attack.

Fair play to Jenner and Rawlins who have certainly taken their chance although I still feel the team was weaker than it should have been for a first team game

Yes indeed, well done to Rawlins and Jenner. Makes a nice change to see our young batters doing well. Let's hope the bowlers can perform as well tomorrow.

Sussex should not be charging for entry or parking. Why not? Even most non-league football clubs charge admission for their reserve team matches! I don't see why it should be free to get in.

JB, all you do is moan, more overseas, not enough young ones, why's he not playing...It goes on and on. CP Robinson, obviously not fit enough, yet, Brown, broken finger, Machan, well who knows, not even fit enough for B & H last week, Evans, now where is he? I heard a hamstring issue? Since Gloucester? Must be bad? Nash, too big for it? I agree he needs runs. But when have you known a captain to play such games unless t was the Aussies?
A bit of praise for the openers? I think so, Beer opening, a shock? To me yes but someone thinks he can bat, and with Finch did a fine job, 80 for the 1st wicket. Not seen that for a while have we? Don't diminish the bowlers, they have a few test bowlers so they can't be too bad. They skittled Hants after all.
Let's see how they bowl. Interested in Garton. To me overrated at the moment, but I want him to do well, very well, I really do. Briggs and Beer, now that interests me. I have said before, dry wickets that partnership could be game winning as the season moves on. We aren't going to get green seaming wickets, unless we have very localised storms?
Rawlins & Jenner, good to see.. Pressure on others, it's what they need. Davo and Lewis and the capt to pick on form/ability not name and salary. Only way to win things.

I'm all for picking the side on merit, that should always be the case. However, often the scenario is, the potential replacements are in an equal run of poor form. An example of this has been the struggles of Chris Nash, and the former skipper, Luke Wright. Nobody has been pushing them by scoring heavily for the seconds, so what does the coach do? Is it better to stick with the players who have done it many times before, in the hope that they would come good, or make changes for change sake, even though the replacements are equally out of form.

458 all out with a maiden first class 100 for Danny Briggs.
Certainly not how I thought this game would go but some very encouraging performances so far.
