After the thrashing of Hampshire, and then the thrashing by a Sussex second XI, the South African A team play a side packed with England Test fringe players (Hameed, Jennings, Foakes, an Overton, a Curran and others) but not including George Garton, who was in the squad. At lunch on the first day England A are 101-1, largely due to the formerly Durham opening pair of Jennings and Stoneman, and SAA are languishing towards the Arundel end of the scale.
