It is interesting to remember that we won this fixture last year without Wright playing.

Evens out for a pain stacking 9 off 16 balls, Wiese out 1st ball and Jordan run out 1st ball. 150 won't be enough. Davis really has signed some mediocre cricketers.
Edit: Liddle goes for 21 in the 19th over. Payne is certainly a pain in the arse for Sussex. When it rains it is advantageous to bat second under Duckworth Lewis rules.

Absolute shambles, our only hope of a point is if it keeps raining.

Still no play since the end of our innings. Play must start by 17:27 to enable @gloscricket to face 5 overs, when they'd require 51 #GOSBTS

I still don't (and never will) get that when there is weather about the umpires/captains/coaches don't agree to reduced overs from the off?

I would suggest a majority of people will accept that 1 point was a lucky outcome for Sussex; but good fortune can play a major part of any competition. Will we be so lucky against Hampshire on Thursday where the form book suggests Hants will easily beat us? www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMCXx5k01TgBut then as I write this Olly Murs is singing 'Hope You Got What You Came For' at the Hove County Ground, so who knows? www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0IkEFE77nU

I still don't (and never will) get that when there is weather about the umpires/captains/coaches don't agree to reduced overs from the off? Because you can't reduce a game based on what might happen (as opposed to what actually happens). How many times does a forecast suggest that there might be interruptions in the day, and then a complete game is played.

Such an unsatisfactory end to this years's Festival. Feel sorry for the sell out crowd, with the weather rather denying them the potential excitement of a run chase.
Think that the local BBC weather forecast for Cheltenham was suggesting cloudy, chance of drizzle but brightening later in afternoon. The other 4 T20s played around the country on Sunday had no weather interruptions, so our game seemed particularly unlucky.
From my perspective, I felt quite happy with Sussex being 127 for 6 off 18. However, 29 runs off the last 2 overs gave you a still competitive total of 156. Accordingly, at the half way stage I nervously thought that the match was fairly evenly poised. The Glos batting order included 3 all rounders and 4 bowlers, putting lots of pressure on our top order.
Additionally, in our 2 earlier T20s at Cheltenham, our overseas Cameron Bancroft batted at 4, top scoring with 51 against Middlesex and a really well judged 34 not out helped us overcome the Kent total of 152 (with 5 balls to spare). So for Sunday's match, Cameron gets jettisoned (unfairly in my opinion) in order to accommodate Sri Lankan all rounder Perera, who had just arrived in the country. In consequence, we ended with 20 year old George Hankins making his T20 debut batting at 4.
Sorry to go on, but wanted to explain why I thought that Sussex actually had a decent chance of defending 156. Two quick wickets would have seen you firmly in the driving seat.
Real shame about the weather. I honestly would have preferred the chance of having a run chase, even if it had ended up in a defeat for Glos.

Hi all Well, made it to Cheltenham and as you will read below managed to get into the ground. Here with my take on the day but be before that just a couple of observations. 1) Our coaching staff work their socks off. The team arrived around 11am and virtually straight away the boys were out there practising. For a good 2.5 hours Mark, Michael and other through ball after ball after ball. That practice session was unrelenting and for mere mortals like I it would of been very punishing on the body. There is no lack of effort here. 2) Ground staff had two hours back breaking graft getting those covers on and off. There were no vehicles aiding this just sheer manual brute force. Those guys deserved a pint or after their shift Sussex Grab a Nat West T20 Blast Point out West It might of been a disastrous final fling for Gloucestershire CCC and their fabulous Cheltenham Festival but I am sure for travelling Sharks fans it was a joyous celebration. This columnist virtually skipped out the ground on a real high knowing that a point puts Sussex back in the Nat West T20 picture. The trip to Cheltenham started badly for yours truly when the SOLD OUT banners appeared three weeks ago. Since that time I had been putting out feelers both here in Sussex and Bristol. As time went by it was clear that this fixture had really captured the imagination and tickets were looking very hard to come by. Indeed setting out this morning it was unclear whether this report was going to come from inside or outside the ground. But contacts came through and my travelling companion Paul Elford suddenly appeared with a coveted ticket. Many thanks to him, Jon and scorer Mike for looking after me. Gloucester are probably rightly proud of their out-ground some 30 away from Bristol HQ. Cheltenham is picture perfect with a beautiful Abby along side and imposing clubhouse. Fans are well catered for with 4 large temporary stands, three well run public bars and interesting food outlets. I choose the hand crafted oven baked pizza at £6 and two pints of Tribune £9. It might of been a sell out but not once did you feel penned in. If Sussex ever have the honour of featuring in this festival again I would jump at the chance. Sussex skipper Ross Taylor won his third toss on the trot and perhaps under peer pressure choose to bat rather than take the ball. It was a decision that was well greeted by Paul and I as we settled in behind the bowlers arm. The impressive Luke Wright cant always carry the team so it wasn't really a surprise when he went early to a very fine running catch. Chris Nash and Ben Brown went well both getting into the 30s as the score past 80. Taylor looked a little out of touch but in truth he did well to score 47 not out off 40 balls. Perhaps the essence of a stuttering inns was provided on 120 runs. Three wickets in three balls put the hosts on top as Evans (LBW), Wiese (caught behind) and Jordan (run out) fell. Jofra Archer scored a very quick 22 leaving Sussex on an under par 156 for 9. As half time approached fine rain began to fall but that was just a prelude to a 20 min unpredicted monsoon deluge. The Beer Tent were suddenly very busy as ground staff rushed the covers on. For the next hour it was covers on covers off with much scratching of heads and looking sky wards. The tonoi blasted out such tunes as 'Singing in the Rain' and 'Walking on Sunshine' as fans dug in and waited for news. But all that hard work with the covers proved unrewarded as the cut off time came and went. A no result and a point a piece. Huge congratulations to Gloucestershire CCC for a wonderful festival and a big mention to the hard working ground crew. However rain turned up which probably fell in favour of the visitors. Its a point that Mark Davis can now build upon as we march to the Ageas Bowl on Thursday evening. Victory at Hampshire and his T20 campaign will be flying. That's the 1st away trip done on this 14 match T20 Blast adventure. The old 206 behaved very well and Paul was excellent company through out. All things considered a point well made.

glosexile,
My view on Sussex's one point as "lucky" is based on the 32 T20 matches to date. Only one game this season has been won by less than 150 runs (Leicestershire v Warwickshire last weekend with a Leic score of 147). The average winning runs has been around 180.
I remember in 'ye old days' when 150 was viewed as a competitive score. Today, it is between 180 and 190 runs due to bigger and better bats; batsmen with stronger arms and wrists; and far more county experience helped by those who regularly play in the IPL and BBL.
Therefore, a score by Sussex of 156 was not only well below par for the competition but given the previous opposition scores of 188 (Hants) and 198 (Glamorgan) all the odds suggested Sussex would lose this game against Gloucestershire. Also, the previous two Glos scores were 182 v Middlesex and 156 to win against Kent off 19 overs.
Having said that, I appreciate your optimistic viewpoint re: the abandoned match.

Maybe the above is why our mere mortals are under performing - they're shagged-out. Nobody works their socks off before the real thing, boxers don't spar, footballers don't sprint for an hour and tennis players don't play a warm-up set against each other. If what you're saying is accurate, we are preparing badly. Save your energy for the real deal man.
