Mills is included in a 14 man squad www.sussexcricket.co.uk/news-1/news-mills-returns-to-t20-squadNot sure whether he is actually fit to play or if this is just spin to drum up interest in the game - Davis is talking him up short of saying "he is picked". Elsewhere, perhaps Salt should come in for a bit of biffing and one of Briggs/Beer can be returned to the kennel. Ross Taylor (capt) Luke Wright Chris Nash Stiaan van Zyl Ben Brown Laurie Evans Chris Jordan David Wiese Jofra Archer Will Beer Danny Briggs Phil Salt George Garton Tymal Mills

Ive given up trying to guess the team, it seems the same players are picked whether they perform or not. If Mills is fit he'll play even though Rawlins, Robinson, Garton and Sakande all out-bowled him yesterday. Nash will play even though he's averaging about 17 and Salt will sit out.
Muddled thinking off the pitch leads to muddled thinking on it.
The 1st XI are under no pressure to perform because they know they won't be dropped. Until someone comes in to shake things up it'll be more of the same results and disappointments with more of the same excuses.

Good luck to all Sharks connections as we travel to the heartlands of Hampshire just north of Southampton. As we have already seen our hosts look to be very cometitive in this formate. They appear to have some exellent batsman who can hurt you at any given point.
However its time for the Sharks to break the shackles and build on that Cheltenham point.
I will be joining the Nat West t20 Blast vibe travelling west at some point during the afternoon. (details a little sketchy at the moment)
Obviously there is the trip even much further west the very next day to consider.
We got on top of a right humdinger at the Ageas in 2015 so perhaps more of the same tomorrow !
follow my take on the day @bowmanontheroad (twiter)

No idea whether the Hampshire batsman will inflict hurt on anyone, but the weather looks benign:

This is our strongest seam attack but with that there really is no need for Wiese. Surely people calling the shots can see that and slot in a batter instead.
Davis has it in his head that you need six bowlers but at what cost? Glammy signed a good player for the comp today, David Miller. He is what we need. Pick the right side, get the balance right, stick Miller at five and I swear we have a winning side.
Hope they're not all knackered before the game starts again.

The game seems to be going well for Sussex with Hants at 112-7 and most of these ferocious beasts confined to their kennels by Archer, Mills, Briggs and Wiese.
The new Cricinfo interface is both naff and hard to navigate. Why go from something comprehensible to something so clearly wrong? Could be a moral for these times there somewhere.

I imagine they thought the old interface wasn't comprehensible, was damaging and was the thing that was clearly wrong. They probably think the new way will go through a predicted rocky patch but will be much better in the long run, mate. Get used to it.
Back on topic, a brilliant bowling performance, even if it did include employing one of the bowlers to bowl the first over of the match only - seems wasteful to me. Even this batting line-up should be able to seal our first win of the competition.

An excellent all-round performance. To beat the top team in the league at the Ageas Bowl is no mean feat. At least, the campaign is properly off and running but with heavy rain forecast tomorrow at Cardiff, Sussex may end up with 4 points off 5 games, but we are now in the hunt and chasing the pack.
hhs,
I agree with you. The new Cricinfo live commentary site is naff.

Chasing a low score with or without six bowlers is a heck of a lot easier than chasing 190 or thereabouts. I find it hard to be ecstatic or highly critical about T20 performances. So little can make such a big difference. Tonight we got their danger men out cheaply; at Arundel a few shots flew in the air and plopped into holes. We're still in it and Wright is due another big score not to mention the skipper. We'll know a lot more by Sunday evening.

Great performance but am I the only one struggling to see the value in having Mills in the team?! He's all over the place!!! Amen! This guy has been hyped up so much I think he, and everyone else, believes it. All the pre match posts on the Sussex twitter account were about him ' He's back!' ' Mills returns! ' etc Theres only one star in the Sussex bowling attack at the moment and that's Archer. Interestingly Mills and Jordan's overs went for more runs than all the others combined. Anyway, a good win and a much improved performance in the field. 3 points from 4 games and likely to be only 1 point tonight because of the weather so it'll be 4 points from 5 games out of a possible 10, might not be enough.

Jofra's catch sparks Sussex Blast Party. Sharks would have travelled to the Ageas Bowl Southampton this evening in fine spirits after a good performance at Cheltenham and a point in the bag. Plus they would have had a few days on the practice ground to prepare. It was no surprise then when Jofra Archer took a stunning running catch to take the dangerous Rossouw in the now familiar David Weise first over. From that moment the hosts were never in it. The 4th game of 14 was proving a little difficult in terms of travelling logistics. The old 206 was other wise engaged and a late train back to Sussex was looking unlikely. However things have a way of working themselves out and in the end it was quite an easy night. I took the 3.30pm train from Brighton direct to Southampton Central and then got a cab out to the ground. After the match Paul offered me a lift back to Burgess Hill. Simples ! For the 1st time in this Nat West T20 campaign skipper Taylor lost the toss and was asked to field. As it turned out that worked out very nicely for Sussex. Wiese completed his one 'spell' for the inns 1 over 1 for 3. That seemed to put not only Hampshire on the back foot but also a large home crowd. Nerves were palpable especially when the score reached 34 for 4 off 4 overs. Tom Alsop (64) was the only Hampshire batsman to show any kind of form. However that was never going to be enough against a exuberant Sharks fielding display and 4 for 18 from man of the man Archer. Hampshire were stranded on a well below par score of 126. In reply Luke Wright fell early to an LBW decision however Chris Nash (32) and Ben Brown (42) calmly got their heads down. For ten overs we appeared to be watching a County game rather than the t20. Proper cricket shots, leaves and running the singles. The score clicked around to 85 for 1. Skipper Ross Taylor (15) looks like a batsman coming into form. Laurie Evans finally put the home crowd out of their misery with back to back boundaries in the 16th over. Sussex won by 6 wickets. This 2017 Nat West t20 Blast campaign has suddenly come alive for Mark Davis and is squad. You can just sense that players are just coming into form and the fielding performance was perfect. Judging by his broad smile at the end it was clear he was a happy man. It all bodes well for the next two exciting t20 Blast fixtures. The lads stayed in Swindon last evening on route to the Swalex Cardiff to play Glamorgan CCC tonight. They will then travel back to Sussex to play Kent CCC at Hove on Sunday afternoon. Another 4 points come 6pm on Sunday would go along way to quarter final qualification. We will bring you both of these games here in the next few days. Like we said at the start, ITS INTENSE !

everpresent,
I must congratulate you on the photos - especially that catch from Archer. Meanwhile, I hope you didn't get too wet at Cardiff last night, but the Sussex batting from both Salt and Taylor augurs well for the Kent game tomorrow.
The table suggests the leader board is anyone's at the moment and these next two games are vital wins to put us amongst the pack. Still the injuries plague the team. How is Wiese looking? And as for our £1.3m man, it's all becoming rather silly as "he rests" for the Glamorgan match. We know he has a dodgy hamstring caused by his former "skip and hop" run in, so his "resting" seems a sensible move. Let's hope the hammy behaves itself tomorrow. Otherwise, we may only see him play in a handful of games this season and he then becomes a waste of space and money.
Very sad for him and no doubt extremely humiliating when all Mills wishes to do is play cricket for Sussex. It makes his £1.3m price tag even more extraordinary and a classic lottery windfall.
Fingers crossed tomorrow and I look forward to reading your report.
