I'm doing a day or two at this one - thanks to my job as a Gypsy I happen to live 30 minutes from Wantage Road this week.
Pick an attacking side, the right side for our present and our future, and win the game well.
Robson Wells Finch Nash Wright Brown Robinson Jordan Archer Beer Garton

My eleven would be as follows although I suspect that the useless Wiese will somehow get picked again!
Angus Robson Luke Wells Stiaan van Zyl Luke Wright Chris Nash Ben Brown Chris Jordan Jofra Archer Ollie Robinson Will Beer Stuart Whittingham

The squad is: Ben Brown (captain) Jofra Archer Will Beer Danny Briggs Laurie Evans Chris Jordan Chris Nash Ollie Robinson Angus Robson Stiaan van Zyl Luke Wells Stuart Whittingham David Wiese Luke Wright Nothing in the club's preview www.sussexcricket.co.uk/news-1/preview-sussex-look-to-continue-promotion-push-at-northampton gives any hint of why Finch is not included or Garton. It looks as if the former is considered solely as an opener, and is being passed over to give Robson an extended trial. That's a shame, if so, because Finch has shown that he can play both attractively and with judgement, and shouldn't be judged purely on averages. Trying to guess the final team isn't easy - what is Evans doing there unless he is expected to play?- and it looks as if Frawdy will have mixed weather tomorrow and on Friday, rain and something a bit better, but not really the baked wickets of last September, so unlikely to have both Briggs and Brown to cheer on. Possible team then is Robson Wells Van Zyl Nash Wright Evans Brown Jordan Robinson Archer Briggs That version might need Van Zyl to bowl a bit if the frontline isn't initially successful. Of course Evans might be in as cover for some unspecified injury worry to one of the batsmen, and if so then I think Davis will certainly play Wiese again in an attempt to strengthen the batting.

As Jordan has been chosen for the ODI squads, whose opening game, the T20, is on Sat 16th, the day after the Derbyshire game, this could be the last time he will play for Sussex this season. His form started late this year but has really blossomed. Who will replace him for the final games,Garton, Whittingham, Sakande...or the dreaded Wiese?

I still worry that Wiese will get the call over the younger bowlers, and even for one game, it matters!

Looks as if Evans was there as cover for someone. Batsmen are all fit so no Evans, no Beer, and no Whittingham. That means Wiese continues his successful run in the side.

I can't blame them keeping the same side. I'd like to think it was too damp for Beer.
Wiese needs to do the lottery, he must win!
I think Briggs is fortunate too. Out bowled by Beer against SA & Leicester, hasn't improved his figures but survives? The caution of Davis? Must have a hand on the ship. In the past I thought the captain selected the team? Perhaps Brown is not ready for that? I'm sure if he played for England he would have the authority? Not trusted? That needs to change soon. With players coming and going over the next few weeks/months, Brown needs a big input, after all he will be captain and needs to have his squad not one imposed.
Not the team I would have selected.

It is never too damp, too dry, too hot or too cold for beer

Wiese needs to do the lottery, he must win! I thought this when he was picked! But he's been the pick of the bowlers so far according to BBC comms

A worrying day for Sussex as Northants are already taking the game away. Why does Duckett enjoy batting against the Sussex bowlers so much? He scored a double hundred against us in April and now it looks like a repeat.
The momentum of this match needs to change and fast, otherwise, Sussex could be fighting for a draw from Day 2.

He scored a double hundred against us in April and now it looks like a repeat. The momentum of this match needs to change and fast, otherwise, Sussex could be fighting for a draw from Day 2. It will be interesting to hear from Frawdy about conditions on the ground. From afar it seems that Archer bowled much too much short stuff, particularly at Duckett who can play that sort of bowling all day. He's out of his depth against smarter bowlers and let's hope that Archer uses this as a learning lesson. Jordan also seemed to have forgotten the way he has been bowling recently and had a miserable time. I don't think Sussex can or should win this, and if the bowling isn't good enough, there have been enough instances of concern about the batting strength this season to confirm that it isn't quite up to what's needed to go up and stay up. Meanwhile in an abbreviated day the perennial yo-yo team Worcester have 3 points to none from Notts. That probably makes them superior to Sussex, as far as that goes. Questions for Rob Andrew and Bob Warren? Sharpen your pencils and get ready.
