This is Frawdy reporting in for duty. Conditions looked wet, so I didn't go. You're welcome in advance HH.
As I wanna watch Sussex bat in some form of sunshine, and I'm an optimist, I'm gonna go Thursday. Maybe Friday if the game's cooking.
Predictable line-up. I hope Wiese doesn't log-on to the board of an evening, everybody's on his back. Ultimately, he was offered a decent amount of money to come play cricket. I've an issue with the person/people offering it.
If we don't get promoted this season, that will be two seasons of failure in all competitions under this management, including two frankly embarrassing one-day campaigns in 2016.
Some may say expectations are too high but we still have a good first division squad with an additional several overseas players having turned up, and I can't think of one that's performed well.
Every time I look at our line-up alongside our div 2 rivals I wonder how we're not battering everyone.
That's enough optimism for one night.

Oh dear this game is leaving Sussex at the taxi rank. Northants already gained maximum batting points and are just out for 426. The best we may hope for is a draw as heavy rain is forecast on Friday. Again, Robinson is the pick of the bowlers (4-81) whereas Jordan has had an unusual mare (0-97 off 21 overs). www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/scorecard/ECKO41358

Nash out. Sussex 116-3 at tea. Time for Luke Wright to show his mettle and turn his season around.

A classic Sussex collapse. 172 all out. Just when you think the team are improving, all the old negative patterns, cycles and demons occur. Bar a miracle, we can throw this match in to the bin and walk away with nothing more than 3 points. Sussex follow-on. Probably be all over by tomorrow afternoon before the rains come. Wright scored 22. edit: Already 16-1.

Good to see Sussex showing some lower order fight. Could this be another Durham Robinson and Hobden partnership? Sussex now 93 runs ahead with 2 wickets remaining. Archer on 60 - Wiese 43. Presently, 101 partnership for the 9th wicket. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/scorecard/ECKO41358

Bad light stop play. Sussex 108 runs ahead with two wickets in hand. Archer 66, Wiese 52. Partnership 116 for the 9th wicket. Who would have thought this mid-afternoon. And to add the cherry, Wantage Road is set for heavy rain overnight and further rain at around lunchtime tomorrow to last the day. You never know. Sussex may even get a draw and 5 unexpected points, nullifying Northamptonshire's progress and stopping them overtake us in the table. If that is a goatmouth, I can't think of a better one. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/scorecard/ECKO41358The only bad news is: Worcestershire look set to beat Notts as they only require 102 runs with 8 wickets remaining. Perhaps, the weather can intervene there too? edit: Typical the game continues and Wiese is out for 61. Archer remains 74*. Sussex lead by 128 with a wicket in hand. Now close of play. Still have a chance of a draw if it downpours tonight in Northampton.

Wiese strikes back against his detractors. First a properly committed and substantial innings, then first wicket in the Northants innings. Probably the rain is still ahead of him on points in the Sussex popularity stakes.

Afternoon forecast now changed and very much in favour of Northants. Seems the heavy rain will occur south of the ground. At least Duckett has gone for a low score thanks to Archer which is some kind of victory. www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2641430?day=0

The lack of posts on this thread portrays the disinterest in this match. No surprise, Northants win by 6 wickets and are now tied with Sussex on 156 points, although are ahead due to one less lost match. Meanwhile, Worcestershire beat Notts and are now 36 points ahead, although have played one extra game. A disastrous Sussex first innings with both bat and ball, sealed our fate. The chances of that second promotional place becomes even slimmer. The one positive note was the Sussex lower order fight back in the second innings where Archer, once more, showed what a mouth- watering all-rounder he is becoming and Wiese had one of his best games for Sussex this season; an injury-free Robinson continues to embrace the side; and Robson scored 72. Onward to Hove and Derbyshire next Tuesday. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/county-championship-division-two/table

Onward to Hove and Derbyshire next Tuesday. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/county-championship-division-two/table I don't think it is lack of interest so much as a certain weary contempt for the way Sussex have thrown away their chances all season. How can a team win so resoundingly as we did against Worcester, for example, and yet lose so badly as we have done against Notts, both times against Kent, and here? It isn't lack of ability, as evidenced by these "spirited fightbacks", so much as a total inability to do the things well when they are needed to be done well. Against a young and inexperienced Glamorgan side we should have won handsomely, but scampered home finally because of the improbable heroics of Robinson. Recently the batting has become even more brittle, as Wells seems to have lost all his early season form, Van Zyl has been less of a sheet anchor since going up to 3, and Wright seems to have given up entirely, although Nash has found all his old flair in this second half of the season. What should have been the best bowling attack in the division has only occasionally performed successfully as a unit. Archer has been the star, Jordan occasionally (but not in this game), and Garton, Whittingham and Sakande have been lost without trace. Something is not right about the way the team takes the field. They really should be supremely confident in their abilities to win games, either bowling or batting - and if they had fluked promotion to Division One they would need that confidence because the gulf in class is growing all the time.

I agree. The team problem is mental and has been for the last three seasons. Call it a dearth of confidence or whatever but the immense talent and ability within the side is being suffocated and held back by a lack of self-belief, self-assurance and mental resolve.
This problem should have been fixed by the coaching staff by now, yet it meanders on from season to season.

Yep, sick of the underachievement more like. We are lame and Davis has taken this team backwards. How many times have we ruled ourselves out of winning games through our first innings batting over the last couple of years - and beyond actually.
We'd have the best attack if it was picked but despite Davis' ridiculously optimistic post match comments after every poor performance he's actually very negative with selection and signings. A reasonable fight back when the game was already lost aside, on a decent pitch, we were poor.
I'd give Wright the Derby game, no more, and what is Briggs doing in this side? He's had a hell of a run, he's averaging 48 odd with the ball and does nothing with the bat. Beer is averaging 22 with ball, 25 with bat, and has already out-bowled Briggs in the one game they played together. He deserves his chance.
It says a lot about an overseas player when he gets praised for scoring fifty and taking four wickets in two innings. He did alright but he's not as good as Robinson, Jordan or Archer. Another ill-judged signing under a long contract, just like Briggs.
I hope we don't go up, we don't deserve to. I sincerely hope Davis is gone by the end of the month. Two years of abject failure should seal his fate.
