I'd give Carter a couple of weeks off and get ready for the Championship stuff, he's had a hectic time of it this year.

I noticed both Ibrahim and Foreman are currently both playing in the U18s at Blackstone. Which brings me to the point. If you do not play in the List A white ball there is no Sussex CC competitive cricket for contracted players in August. Ok, there may be Club games on a Sat. We could blame the 100 for this (which hopefully won't last) but Sussex CC could do more. Arrange friendlies for the 2s against minor counties and/or other counties. Contracted players want to play cricket in August, not carry water bottles and continuous netting.
But back to selection. I wouldn't make wholesale changes; just a few. We need to do whatever is appropriate to prep players for the next red ball game.

The Hundred stretches a lot of squads so no competitive 2nd XI cricket is scheduled by the ECB.

I would select our strongest team from the players available. We don’t want to get stuck in a losing rut.

Squad: Alsop, Carson, Carter (wk), Coles, Crocombe, Currie, Foreman, Haines (c), Hudson-Prentice, Hunt, Ibrahim, Lion-Cachet, Pujara, Tear, Ward.
I cannot see the point of playing Alsop, Haines, Hudson-Prentice and Pujara in a dead rubber.
My XI would be Ward, Lion-Cachet, Carter, Coles c, Ibrahim, Tear wk, Carson, Foreman, Crocombe, Currie, Hunt

Spectators and members have paid money and would like to see us play well and win, and the other sides in the division will not be amused if we throw on the towel and give Gloucester an easy victory.

It makes sense to blood a couple of youngsters but they need to learn from senior pro's too.

That’s the approach they’ve taken with Clark and Carter rested (though you’d hardly call them veterans) in favour of Tear and Ibrahim. Let’s hope Ibrahim has found some form.

What I find a bit puzzling is that Rogers is given a try out in the warm up matches (and does pretty well), yet when the opportunity comes to give a couple of youngsters a run out in the actual competition, he doesn't even make the squad 🤔. I am assuming he isn't injured. Good decision to rest Carter and give Tear some exposure. Not really been Clark's tournament, so understandable he has been taken out the firing line.

I don’t like to see Crocombe go all round the park, why are we persisting in playing him, and why in the opening power play when there is no protection.
