We’re no longer the ‘one win (per season) wonders’ thank goodness. Unadkat has been an inspired signing. Good job because our other bowlers averaged one wicket per 25 overs between them in that innings!

A brilliant win and a brilliant match. Concerning that it wasn't more comfortable given the target and the time in the match that we had to get the job done.
Still plenty to improve upon. Promotion will still be a step too far in my opinion.

Another in a long line of close exciting matches this season involving Sussex. Great for the neutral and supporters of red ball cricket, perhaps not so much if you are a Sussex supporter of a nervous disposition.
Having arrived at the ground mid-afternoon on Sunday and stayed for both days 2 and 3, perhaps the biggest mistake of the week was mine in not extending my visit into day 4.
Well played Leicestershire an outstanding effort, but if we hadn't got over the line I feel it would have been more a case of our losing rather than Leicestershire winning or put more bluntly grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory.
Setting 499 to win with the opposition 16-2 requiring the third highest run chase in County Championship history, it should never have got that close. Our bowling attack again demonstrating the need for a major rebuild. Perhaps the most perplexing is Carson taking the two vital wickets of Ackerman and Amin, but not going on to win the match by ripping through the lower middle-order and tail.
A defeat I feel would also have destroyed what little confidence and moral were left in this team and what remained of this season would no doubt have imploded.
As for this messageboard in response to your earlier post the realab1, it would have probably gone into meltdown. That reminds me, nothing from the harbinger of doom Coverpoint this evening!! Can't be easy when your glass is always half empty.
A few final thoughts..
I do hope there are no repercussions from any disciplinary transgressions. It did appear that we were on the receiving end of a number of lectures from the Umpires and there appeared a rather serious discussion between them and Farbrace at the end of play.
After lunch on day 3, I returned to the Shark Stand from my lunchtime deckchair nap at the far end of the ground completely bemused as were the majority of supporters at our decision to bat the one over after lunch before declaring. How vital those extra 8 runs proved to be!!
Finally, with both Worcestershire and Leicestershire both having to play Durham and Yorkshire (arguably the two strongest sides in the Division) in their remaining two fixtures, if a fit, focused and motivated Robinson returns for us to partner Unadkat against Derbyshire and lead the attack against second from bottom Gloucestershire with nothing to play for in their final game, who knows? We may still get promoted. It is a big IF though and I have my doubts if we will see Robinson in a Sussex shirt again. Hopefully, I am wrong.

Thank god for Jaydev as the rest of the bowling still needs considerable improvement. As good as Pujara has been I think we need two overseas bowlers to win matches next season.

The game of cricket has almost been turned on its head in the last few years with 4th innings run chases becoming the norm now.
Thankfully we had Jaydev who bowled his heart out for a county hes only been around for a few days really. The standard "Who" was shouted by the nay sayers but hes proved them wrong.
IF Ollie plays i make us marginal favs for 2nd spot given the 2 run ins.

Something isn’t right with Ollie Robinson at the moment. Would be very surprised to see him play again this season. Maybe next year.
The Leics game reaffirmed our need to retain a top class overseas opening bowler and to find/develop a reliable third seamer. Karvelas is solid and FHP is fine as a fourth seamer but is never likely to be a prolific wicket taker. Chris Wright may plug the gap next year and buy us a little more time. Ideally Crocombe or Hunt will grow into the role but they both have a lot to prove. The game also proved again that we need another spinning option if only to keep Carson on his toes.
As for the batting, if only we could have Haines playing like two years ago and Orr playing like last year. Then we’d be really formidable. Next year may be decisive in showing whether we have two genuine high class openers or not.

My understanding Ollie wanted to play this game. With him Jaydev Karvelas and FHP youve a decent 4 man seam attack.
I'd be more surprised if he didnt play at Derby unless the ECB know, he'll know how important these 2 games are.

Not sure that’s true, he was caddying for his new girlfriend yesterday in the BMW pro-am golf.
Not sure I’d call FHP’s bowling as decent either.

The Times reported that he won’t play again for us this season but the article was behind a paywall so all I could see was the headline. Of course one possibility is that Robinson gets pushed back in the queue for England places by a new generation of bowlers (Atkinson, Turner, Tongue etc). That would solve many of our problems. With Broad retiring and others likely to follow before long I can’t see enough young talent coming through for that to happen though unless he gets on the wrong side of McCullum and Stokes.

Why on earth would the ecb block him playing and if they had why wouldn’t the club say so. Let’s be honest Robbo does everything he can to avoid playing for us these days (Not saying I don’t believe Robbo told you that btw!)
