So the final game of the season gets underway tomorrow. Likely to be some rain but should be plenty enough time for a positive result. 3 wins to 1 defeat for the season should leave us feeling reasonably positive over the winter but if we play like we did at Derby and lose to (so far) winless Gloucs, the knives will surely be out on this forum.
Here’s the match squad: Alsop (c), Carson, Carter (wk), Clark, Coles, Crocombe, Currie, Foreman, Haines, Hudson-Prentice, Hunt, Ibrahim, Orr, Ward
No overseas player and to nobody’s surprise Robinson is still nursing his finger injury. Also, no Karvelas.

That squad is a throwback to the mid 90s. Horribly weak. The non-selection of Garton suggests a parting of ways is on the horizon. I wonder if members will vote with their feet next season, or whether they’ll keep coming along for want of anything better to do.

The worry, of course, is how we take 20 wickets. Gloucs may be winless but they’re not hopeless.

If we prepare a result pitch then it might be an interesting finish to the season but you get the feeling both sides are rather looking forward to the end of the season.

Best to keep expectations low so a draw would be a good result for me.
A win might put us very close to 2nd place if we hadn’t been deducted 17 points and that would just add to the frustration.

Completely agree with this. I'd not want to be Jack Carson if its 12 points that costs us promotion. A small read the other day we had a similar points deduction in 2021 but it was a suspended points deduction. I feel if this hadnt happened we may have avoided the 12 point penalty this time. Clearly shows some of these young guys need to improve their discipline and i'd not be surprised if the culprits are the same. Here's hoping to a win which may make us a slightly more attractive proposition.

They’ve been roughly on a par with Derbyshire. Nuff said!

Here's hoping to a win which may make us a slightly more attractive proposition. I am yet to be convinced by Carson and am not his greatest advocate, but if I read the reports around our disciplinary sanction correctly (and please correct me if I am wrong), it was because we received a total of four fixed penalties this season. So, whilst Carson showed an inexcusable level of immaturity if we were to miss out on promotion blame cannot be attributed entirely on him. In fact, you could put forward a case that Pujara and Haines are more culpable. Pujara picked up the first penalty in the opening fixture of the season against Durham and Haines, whose (and perhaps its just me) body language at times just doesn’t look right was responsible for TWO of the fixed penalties collected in the Leicestershire match and the home fixture against Yorkshire. Pujara got his one game ban for being captain at the time all FOUR offences were committed. None of the miscreants have covered themselves in glory.

Team will be either as Realab says or will include Ibrahim for one of the bowlers, probably Currie. Unless Farbrace decides with nothing to play for he wants to mix it up and use the match to give Foreman an opportunity and give Ward one final chance to stake a claim for a contract renewal. If my understanding is correct and both Ward and Currie are out of contract at the end of the season (can you confirm Realab?) then I suspect their race is probably run.
