Why is Crocombe in the team, he appears to be fifth choice bowler although Carson and Coles might get the nod before him, not criticising Alsop, I wouldn’t bowl him either, I’m just asking Possibly for his batting, these days Not on todays showing. On my recent visit to Hove for the Leicestershire match, in Crocombe's defence it was noticeable other than Unadkat he was the one other bowler with genuine pace. The problem is he seems unable to put the ball consistently in the right place. Similar to Carson, your never far away from a four ball. Needs to take more wickets at key points of the innings rather than mopping up the lower middle order and tail when the opposition are chasing quick runs. Hunt now probably marginally ahead of him in the pecking order. Good to see Currie back and in the wickets.

136/6 should stave off the ‘sack the lot’ comments at least until tomorrow

At the moment crocombe is bowling like a headless chicken.

Our day after losing a big toss.
Bowlers taken a hammering by some on here but did well today.
If we can get a lead of any kind I fancy us to go on and win.

I think the logic is fairly obvious. It was wrong to write Gloucestershire off. However, they haven’t batted yet, so you might be proven right in the end. Did write them off just said they were sh1t, you said they werent but continue to say how bad we are but we are better than them so it is very confusing, i'm half hoping its a glass half empty mentality from a fans point of view. To be clear (I hope) my position is that we have a reasonable talent base that’s been underperforming, particularly since the beginning of August. When we’re in such a bad run of form, we shouldn’t be complacent about facing any other team. As Derbyshire showed in the last game, they’re all capable of outplaying us when we’re performing that poorly. We really need to get to the bottom of why we dropped off in the second half of the season and rectify it for next year. I have my suspicions, which I’ve hinted at in previous posts but since they are only suspicions I’ll reserve judgment for now. Hopefully we win this game and everyone feels a bit more content over the winter. On the recruitment side, we know Farbrace would like to recruit three more first team-ready players, as would we all but I’m sceptical about our ability to attract them all at once, given that many other teams are on the hunt too. I suspect he, and we, will need to be patient.

Jake Ball , anyone? Released by Notts.
Back to full fitness apparently after an injury-ravaged few years. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he comes our way.

Not for me, too big a gamble. At least with Crocombe, Hunt and Currie they are usually available for selection. I am all for strengthening our bowling attack, but we don't have the luxury of taking this type of risk.

Good. We need to recruit a new batsman as captain for starters. Welcome back John! Yeah Nick Browne hasnt signed a contract yet with Essex and they have sorte dmost of their contracts out so maybe he might fancy the challenge? Ive mentioned him and Patel before. I dont subscribe to the overseas players have to be at least one bowler, we have to recruit the best players available and if thats 2 bowlers or 2 batters or 1 of each so be it. I trust Farbs! Thank you Andy!😀 Browne is a very good shout, good age too. As for the overseas, I feel a batter and a bowler is what we need, even with a domestic batsman signed. . Although, we arguable need 2 overseas bowlers too.

Mixed day today. Cannot allow them off the hook tomorrow.
I don't want Jake Ball given our history with over the hill seamers. However I can see him coming here given that he does fit what Farbrace has said he wants. Furthermore, Farbrace worked with Ball with England as well so there is a connection there. I suspect Worcestershire will be interested given their loss of pace bowlers, ironically to Notts.

Surely if we sign 1 more domestic bowler you could argue we'd be flooded a bit in the bowling department with Wright and Lamb coming in although the latter i see in direct competition with FHP's role in the team. Not sure about Jake Ball but if he is inexpensive then why not. I just think if youve got the chance to sign 2 overseas batters thatll score say 1800 runs between them you'd be foolish not to take them so the black and white approach in terms of "we must sign an overseas bowler" is more prohibitive than it is a help. If we can get out there this morning with the overheads and get through them, we then have to keep our fingers crossed our batters can find something for one last time and win us the game.

Comes down to a one innings game. Hope we don’t need 500 to secure the win this time!

Comes down to a one innings game. Hope we don’t need 500 to secure the win this time! Which from being 117-8 in our first innings we would probably take. Over to the batters. Plenty of time, play sensibly and build an innings. Haines gone. Not for the first time this season out to a poor shot outside his off stump. A disappointing season from him. 662 runs at 33.10 with six fifties and a highest score of 91.

A lot of openers would take 33 as an average given the times of the year they play the majority of their matches. I would say disappointing is harsh but i think we expect more form a player of his quality.
