I am delighted for the Club. A comprehensive win, albeit against a poor side, which leaves Sussex on a high at the end of a very up and down season. We are likely to end up third in Division 2. While encouraged by three Championship wins, one swallow doesn't make a summer and supporters, by now, can see many of the problems facing the Club. It has been rumoured on this Forum that financial difficulties may be looming which means recruiting good quality players over the winter could prove difficult. While the Club management may have a short term reprieve after this victory, the underlying problems won't go away and we are only kidding ourselves if we believe this. Meanwhile, enjoy the win. 3rd place behind 2 good teams is a huge achievement, that should not be taken away from these guys.

Fair enough squire. Hope Farbrace gets the players he wants and you have a better squad. Winter well.

I think it was always the intention to include at least a couple of experienced players in the squad but through a combination of retention problems and misjudged recruitment it didn’t work out that way. That’s why Filby claims there’s no change of strategy but clearly Farbrace is insisting on a bigger core of experience than in the previous plan. Presumably the playing staff budget will need to be increased. So it feels like a new direction to everyone who doesn’t feel defensive about what’s come before. The playing budget wont increase theyve said that multiple times. Its jsut been freed up by Finn and now Wright and Probably Garton plus your 2 overseas, there is the 5. In which case the club needs to be careful in its expectation management. Since everyone expects we’ll continue to play 2 overseas players when we can, they shouldn’t be lumped in with regular squad signings. Also, Farbrace was talking about wanting 3 more players before the Wright deal broke down, so now the natural assumption is he’ll want 4. I was pleased in his interview that he said this would take 2 seasons. My suspicion is it may take longer than that.

You confuse me a lot. You think we are sh1t but think Gloucester are good, i cant see the logic! I think the logic is fairly obvious. It was wrong to write Gloucestershire off. However, they haven’t batted yet, so you might be proven right in the end. You were vindicated in the end Therea, Gloucestershire were pretty terrible but credit to us for batting back so well from such a bad start. That shows character.

But it’s even better to end the season as County Champions 2nd year in a row! Winter well people. We are coming for you Steve! It helps of course to have a ground that hosts Test Matches and the 100 and can seat many more paying spectators but we are coming for you 😂😂😂

Fascinating end to the season at Trent Bridge. Will we be playing Kent or Middlesex next season?

A nice win to round off yet another dreadful season.
Very little will change unless the parasites at the top of this once great club are removed, but unfortunately I can't see that happening anytime soon.
Carlson would be a fantastic signing. Give him the captaincy and that removes the dilemma of whether or not to retain Pujara as skipper or go for 2 overseas bowlers. Carlson ticks every box for what we need and solves the captaincy problem. Have to get him, don't want to hear any excuses or PR spin on this one especially as money has now been freed up from the Wright debacle.
CWC in October and November and then the football will takes precedent in my house until next April. Villa away tomorrow mind, UTA.
It's been a pleasure engaging with everyone this season. Looking forward to more arguing, moaning and complaining with you all next season.
Winter well.
Andrew out.

So we end the season in third place with three wins and one defeat - which doesn’t stack with some of the gloomy comments on here. Third was probably about right. Even though we threw away so many points due to lack of discipline and slow over rates, we have just missed out on a promotion spot. If Ollie Robinson had been allowed to play two or three more games, we would probably have got promoted. And, for me, that’s one of the problems. When Ollie plays we look a far stronger team and capable of winning. I do feel that if he is only going to play two or three games for us next season, it would have been better if he had not re-signed and we had found a replacement. The win against Gloucestershire shows we are not far from being a side capable of getting promoted from Div 2 but need more strength, depth and experience to compete in Division 1. I expect supporters of Surrey and Essex point out weaknesses in their team, but our CC side is not far off being a decent side. If there was a disappointment this season, it was the lame effort in the One Day Cup where we seem to come off the rails. Rebuilding our previously strong T20 side will be harder with such a young squad. However, I don’t think we need much to get us promoted next year but as others have recognised taking 20 wickets is a prerequisite and finding players capable of playing every game is tricky. I’m looking forward to the 2024 CC.

Yes, replacing one overseas player with another shouldn’t count as one of the three new signings.

Why would you not want your club associated with one of the best bowlers in the country?

Why would you not want your club associated with one of the best bowlers in the country? The comment was conditional on the implied expectation that most people assumed he would play about half of the CC games and most of the ODs when, in fact, he hardly played for us all season. Yes, it would be better to recruit a topline quickie and treat Ollie as a bonus when he is available. However, the reality is, or certainly was this season, that we hoped he would win us promotion. If he had played eight games we would have done IMO. Do we go into next season hoping he plays 7/8 games? If we do rely on that, our success next season (like this season) will be depend on what England decide.
