Comes down to a one innings game. Hope we don’t need 500 to secure the win this time! We hopefully won’t need it but we have that 500 lead! This game never ceases to surprise me.

Is it possible to hear the Harms interview online somewhere? You Tube stream of the third day's play. Fast forward to about 45 minutes from the start for Filby, about ten minutes before lunch for the start of Farbrace.

Sean Hunt suddenly turning into Shaheen Shah Afridi!! I think earlier in the season playing him when he was clearly struggling done him some damage, comeback roaring though so good on him.

Do we like Allsop as captain? I do. He’s improved and is more convincing than Haines. I’m happy with Farbrace’s decision to look elsewhere for a captain though. Having looked at Carlson’s stats, hopefully him. I think joining Sussex as all-format captain is a more attractive proposition than some others on here think. It’s a great gig. I guess a lot depends on Pujara. Farbrace waxed lyrical about him today but the club has said it’s looking for a captain for all formats which may disqualify Pujara. It is difficult to ascertain what, if any, future he has at the club. If he’s been decaptained against his will, perhaps he is unhappy and will head elsewhere. He won’t be short of suitors.

I suspect Pujara coming back will be dependent on the signings the club want to or are able to make assuming suitable players can be identified. If I understood it all correctly they want three signings that will include an overseas batter, an overseas bowler and somewhere within the three a new captain. It may now be four signings given the news surrounding Chris Wright not joining due to personal reasons. If we sign an overseas batter/captain, then Pujara is unlikely to return. A domestic batter/captain such as Carlson on the other hand and/or a quality domestic bowler that may cause a rethink on the second overseas then there is a greater likelihood of his return. I am not sure the captaincy is that big an issue to him. Given the paucity of options, it feels like he was the only real choice this season other than either going back to Haines that wasn't a great success previously or throwing Alsop in at the deep end. There seems a good relationship between Farbrace, the club and Pujara so hopefully not retaining the captaincy won't be an issue.

Would be asking a huge amount of a 25 year old to move to a new county and be captain across all formats, especially when the coach is trying to change the team culture. I doubt it’s what Farbrace has in mind.

Any more info? What’s been said? The start of the interview was frosty to say the least. The two questions Harms pushed that didn't seem to go down particularly well with our chairman were as follows. Given the Cricket committee give final approval to any player recruitment recommended by Farbrace, what happens if there is a difference of opinion and the committee don't believe the player is the right fit. Secondly and this really appeared to irritate even more, has there been a change in direction from relying heavily on youth to now signing more experienced players. On the second point, the Chairman was adamant there is no change in direction and the current strategy is just a continuation where we previously signed players like Claydon, Meaker and Finn to supplement the youngsters. Apparently, the club just needs to get better at who they recruit. Not sure what others make of it, but personally not convinced on the second point. On the second point, answering “yes” would be a good thing, nothing to be ashamed of, it’s obvious we need to recruit. Because chucking a load of kids in together worked so well…

What is the big deal if they’ve adapted their approach? It’s results that matter. He was unnecessarily defensive. But then again, he is often unnecessarily defensive. Adrian Harms sometimes gives the impression he likes having his tummy tickled but he did well sticking to his guns yesterday.
