Harms taking it to Filby! All getting a bit confrontational. Filby not appreciating Harms probing the operation and function of the Cricket Committee. Harms in standing his ground shock, qualified, of course, with ‘it is so good of you to come on air, no other chairman would’.

Yikes . Chris Wright not coming !! Family issues.
Wonder if they’ll be resolved at somewhere like Notts.

I was Brendan emailing in.
He called me a shrewd bloke :-)
I went in as Brendan as an only fools and horses reference as i know hes a fan but Harms didnt read that out sadly.
I listed Browne, Patel and Carlsson as potential players out of contract and he said Brendan is obviously very shrewd as I have spoken to all 3 of them so that is very interesting!

What are your thoughts on Carlson ? I see he’s 25 but don’t know too much about him. Is he being released from Glamorgan due to poor form? Browne was a strong division one player / England fringes for a few years. Not so much, recently though. 33 at the start of next season. We need a spinner but Patel really does seem past it. We are in Eddie Hemmings territory. With no Wright and no Finn, and Filby saying they want a similar replacement, surely Jake Ball is an obvious choice. Thoughts?

Carllson has scored 1000 runs and bowls handy leg spin. He would be an exceptional signing and an obvious captain for us. In fact all 3 would make us a far far better side.

It’s mad how some of this stuff comes out in these radio chats, rather than club media or kept in-house. Brilliant and shambolic at the same time.

Exceptional, understatement or what? Outstanding aggressive middle order batter, lightening in the field, useful part-time spinner and excellent tactician and Captain. Always seems to score heavily against us. Noticed he was on the list of players out of contract listed on the other thread and thought what a signing if we could get him. The question is just that though. I can't imagine Glamorgan wanting to lose one of their top players.

I can’t imagine for a second that we could pull this off but if we could it would be a game changer

Harms taking it to Filby! Any more info? What’s been said? The start of the interview was frosty to say the least. The two questions Harms pushed that didn't seem to go down particularly well with our chairman were as follows. Given the Cricket committee give final approval to any player recruitment recommended by Farbrace, what happens if there is a difference of opinion and the committee don't believe the player is the right fit. Secondly and this really appeared to irritate even more, has there been a change in direction from relying heavily on youth to now signing more experienced players. On the second point, the Chairman was adamant there is no change in direction and the current strategy is just a continuation where we previously signed players like Claydon, Meaker and Finn to supplement the youngsters. Apparently, the club just needs to get better at who they recruit. Not sure what others make of it, but personally not convinced on the second point.

If Carlson leaves Glamorgan he’d have lots of offers to choose from. Would like to think he’d go for us but it feels like a long shot. Patel would certainly help our one day teams and provide injury cover in the championship. Browne could be a realistic target and exactly the sort of player Farbrace is looking for.
Meanwhile Coles gets his ton breaking the unwritten rule that no Sussex player is allowed to score a century after July!

Could be a useful bargaining chip. Although, I suspect we are all getting a bit carried away. But it would be a mega signing.

Harms taking it to Filby! Any more info? What’s been said? Said Currie and Ward are the only players out of contract this year. There will be no early releases. Wells and Brown went because they were costing us £300k a year above the playing budget, if they’d stayed we would be in £1m of debt.

I would like to see Currie retained, the question is whether there is room in the squad and budget and whether it would impinge on any new signings. I can accept the rationale behind Wells and Brown being released for financial reasons, the more pertinent question would have been why did we then end up paying Luke for an entire season but freeze him out of a struggling side where his inclusion would have undoubtedly improved the team.

And also why not just explain that at the time rather than allow all sorts of speculation.
