I agree with Jon Filby here, i dont think they have changed their approach. I dont think it ever was purely every player had to come through the pathway, that was just the starting point. Theyve tried adding players with experience every year since with varied degrees of success.
Results may suggest otherwise but generally in terms of producing County Cricketers we probably have 6 or 7 that have come through said pathway and have proven they are capable at this level.
The inevitable victory today will represent a relatively successful CC season and with up to 5 new players coming in next year theres a lot to look forward too.

I would agree with the previous post. With two decent signings and a suitable season long overseas player, blue skies are ahead.

I’m confused. The strategy brought in a few years ago was billed as a significant departure from what came before. If we are now saying it amounted to developing young players while bringing in some experienced players, then it wasn’t much of a statement was it? Or a departure. Sussex have always done that. Pretty much every county does that. I don’t think any of this matters much. Indeed I agree with Ashington that adapting is no bad thing. I do object to Filby getting haughty about it. The plan was to jettison older players in favour of developing young players with view to being more successful. It didn’t work, as many predicted at the time. I appreciate some of you personally know and like Jon Filby. I am mainly going on these radio interviews. It’s good that he does them but he comes across as arrogant for portions of each one.

If we bring those 5 players in then even I’ll be happy😉 and we’ll put it all down to Farbrace rather than Squeaky. And for me, this will represent something of a shift from the last couple of years, when we seemed intent on fielding the most inexperienced sides possible with 7/8/9 youngsters all thrown in together, which clearly didn’t work, as many of us knew it wouldn’t.

I think it was always the intention to include at least a couple of experienced players in the squad but through a combination of retention problems and misjudged recruitment it didn’t work out that way. That’s why Filby claims there’s no change of strategy but clearly Farbrace is insisting on a bigger core of experience than in the previous plan. Presumably the playing staff budget will need to be increased. So it feels like a new direction to everyone who doesn’t feel defensive about what’s come before.

The playing budget wont increase theyve said that multiple times. Its jsut been freed up by Finn and now Wright and Probably Garton plus your 2 overseas, there is the 5.

Sussex win!!
Always good to end the season on a high and with all the talk of improving the squad in the off season, a feeling of hope for next season.
GOSBTS!

It's the hope that kills us....at least in the last few seasons.

But it’s even better to end the season as County Champions 2nd year in a row! Winter well people.

I am delighted for the Club. A comprehensive win, albeit against a poor side, which leaves Sussex on a high at the end of a very up and down season. We are likely to end up third in Division 2.
While encouraged by three Championship wins, one swallow doesn't make a summer and supporters, by now, can see many of the problems facing the Club. It has been rumoured on this Forum that financial difficulties may be looming which means recruiting good quality players over the winter could prove difficult.
While the Club management may have a short term reprieve after this victory, the underlying problems won't go away and we are only kidding ourselves if we believe this.
Meanwhile, enjoy the win.
