Which from being 117-8 in our first innings we would probably take. Over to the batters. Plenty of time, play sensibly and build an innings. Haines gone. Not for the first time this season out to a poor shot outside his off stump. A disappointing season from him. 662 runs at 33.10 with six fifties and a highest score of 91. A lot of openers would take 33 as an average given the times of the year they play the majority of their matches. I would say disappointing is harsh but i think we expect more form a player of his quality. I would suggest we need to take into account the manner of many of his dismissals Realab. Yes opening the batting is probably one of the most difficult tasks as a batter, new ball, harder batting conditions facing the opposition's best bowlers. But he has been the master of his own downfall far too often this season. 840 runs at 56.00, two centuries and a top score of 191 not out from 12 matches in 2022. 1176 runs at 47.04, three centuries and a top score of 156 from 13 matches in 2021. Quite a drop off from the last two seasons. Behind Pujara and possibly Orr, I suggest we would be looking to him as our next top batter.

Absolutely but i cant have its a disappointing season, just a below average one. Haines isnt the problem with our batting! Without looking I'd say Alsops runs were lower than last year and probably Pujara's too.

Without looking I'd say Alsops runs were lower than last year and probably Pujara's too. Oh absolutely, I am not trying to single out Haines, he's not the only one. Pujara, Alsop and Orr have all dropped off, although you could say Pujara had an exceptional season last year and Orr's injuries have impacted on him (although pre-injury he wasn't at last year's level). Carter has improved on last year, although a century would have been the icing on the cake, Coles has contributed and advanced more than many would have expected and Hudson-Prentice's batting has been the real bonus. Unfortunately, our 'big hitters' have all dropped off. Below average or disappointing it's just semantics. The bottom line is in order to have had a successful season we needed more from them than we got, particularly given our batting department was always considered stronger than our bowling.

Yep and more wickets at key times from our Spinner.
A full winter with training programmes set by Farbrace will be very beneficial.

Average age of this side we have put out is 22.
When you really think about it does and should put expectations into perspective. There is huge potential here but with youth comes naivety and i think thats why results have been a bit up and down.

For those of us who follow football, Brighton also has a young squad but blended with some experienced role models. It’s a very successful formula. Chelsea, by contrast, has splurged a vast amount of money on young players while getting rid of their older ones, with predictably dismal results.

Was only thinking yesterday that Sussex could do worse than chat to Paul Barber and pick his brains on team bonding.

Harms taking it to Filby! All getting a bit confrontational. Filby not appreciating Harms probing the operation and function of the Cricket Committee.
