Promotion hopes are gone for Sussex but we can still affect who goes up. Northants play Leicester which they should win, Worcester play Durham which they should also win. If we can beat Notts convincingly they could finish 3rd. After all the talk in the press this week about Notts 'poaching' players I'm sure there'll be a fair few who hope they don't go up.
As it stands at the moment:
Worcestershire 216 Notts. 210 Northants. 197 Sussex. 183
My team for our final 2017 CC game
Wells Finch van Zyl Wright Nash Salt Burgess Archer Jordan Garton Whittingham

I think Nash should bat above Wright.

Ideally I'd have Nash opening and Finch at 5 but Nash seems to favour a lower position now and as the senior batsman I guess he gets what he wants!

Whilst I agree it would be sweet to prevent Notts going up because of their 'transfer' policy it might not do us a lot of favours if they're still around next season with the additions of whoever they poach.

www.sussexcricket.co.uk/news-1/preview-nottinghamshire-visit-hove-for-season-finale" Danny Briggs, Ollie Robinson and Stiaan van Zyl are rested from the squad that travelled to Durham and are replaced with Chris Nash, Delray Rawlins, Abi Sakande and Will Beer.
Luke Wells (c) Chris Nash Harry Finch Luke Wright Phil Salt Michael Burgess Delray Rawlins Jofra Archer Laurie Evans Chris Jordan Stuart Whittingham George Garton Abi Sakande Will Beer
Speaking ahead of the match, Head Coach Mark Davis said: “Coming off an outstanding win against Durham last week, we are motivated to end the season well."
Absolute twaddle. The time for picking (some) of the younger players and giving balance was earlier, when we were losing matches we might have won. This is contemptuous towards the County Championship that the Old Guard of Sussex notables claims to revere so much. In practice, the season ended for everyone but Northants two rounds ago and it is just a fill-in before the winter overseas tournaments begin.

I'd like to see Worcester and Northants promoted, and Hampshire and Warwickshire relegated. This would stop Division 1 looking like a cartel of test match grounds. BTW, what was the rationale for reducing Div 1 to 8 counties?

BTW, what was the rationale for reducing Div 1 to 8 counties? I think it was someone from Worcestershire who told me last season that the rationale was that it meant a) all div 1 teams could play each other twice in the shorter programme b) all 18 teams could play at the same time (I've not checked to see how often that actually happened).

Looks as if we've got a delayed start at Hove due to heavy rain overnight.

Start delayed till 1pm when Sussex will bat - toss uncontested and Notts are quite capable of looking up at the clouds as well as down at the damp outfield.
Sussex: Wells (capt), Finch, Salt, Nash, Rawlins, Evans, Burgess (wk), Jordan, Archer, Sakande, Whittingham.

Predictable. He really hasn't been what you'd call a stand-out signing, has he?

There is a chilling determination and hunger from the Notts bowlers and fielders to show Sussex they are going to win this match. A combo of poor shots and excellent bowling have left Sussex languishing on 107-5 at tea with the only batsman to offer resistance, Luke Wells, just out LBW for 46.
At this rate, Sussex will be all out by the close of play for under 200.

Kept wicket very tidily and looked good with the bat. He was very unlucky to get out in the first innings with one that rolled back on to his stumps.
