Left the ground just as the 100 partnership came up - very impressed with Burgess in particular and Rawlins grafted away and got his reward. I also felt there were a couple of poor shots from Nash and Salt but Notts led by Mullaney did bowl well. Gutting to see Wells fall when he did but the second session more than made up for it!

100 partnership from Burgess and Rawlins, both getting 50's.
230 for 5 at close of play.

Hhs, A contrived counter-goatmouth. After tea Sussex played superbly. Burgess is mightily impressive and even though Rawlins' timing was out, he had the discipline to hang in there and not resort to frustrated and silly shots. A proper middle order partnership after some top order malaise, where only Wells shone and as for Evans... not sure what or where he's at.

The yoot rising to the top again - more solid proof of what the academy is producing.
Should have played Beer instead of Evans, he's a better bat and a man who returns 15-180-60 in the only four day games he was given a chance in might get a wicket or two, too. His spin rival: 14-677-218. Where's the justice? Frankly, I don't care if someone's a convicted murderer and they bounce in to bowl underarm off a pogo stick, if they're returning figures like that, they play. I wouldn't even bad-mouth a Kolpak if he'd done that in two games. It's a criminal injustice and if you don't agree you can't read.
Should have played Garton and 'rested' Jordan as well. Finds rhythm and form but gets dumped out again. He should be a Lion down under at best but if England did consider him they'd have to worry about his ability to do a day's work - Sussex clearly do. I had more beans than I ever had when I was 20, more beans all day long. Don't tell me he's too young.

Presently, still pinching myself. WOW! What a day. Let us hope Northants are capable of capitalising on the massive favour we are doing for them. Lots to think of for the structure and strategy of the county system that none of the Notts frontline bowlers who massacred us in the spring were here today. Also, that Burgess, whose class as batsman and keeper was pretty evident early on when Brown was first injured has been ignored for the majority of the season while old sweats failed to earn their corn and others failed to grasp their chances.

Presently, still pinching myself. WOW! What a day. Yes, it was an absolute treat in the September sunshine. Great centuries from Burgess and Jordan, and fine bowling performances from Whittingham and Archer later in the day.

Excellent rearguard recovery, and some. We are so much better when the keeper plays at seven Both Brown and Burgess are excellent at marshalling the tail in these sort of situations With our plethora of bowling all rounders, it pretty much guarantees us a decent total

Hopefully Burgess will keep the gloves next season, batting at 7 and Brown will bat at 6.

Hopefully Burgess will keep the gloves next season, batting at 7 and Brown will bat at 6. Agreed. Burgess is very impressive - with bat and gloves.

Would be interesting to see how the averages have been for the season as I don't think it's the first time the 'lower' order have been better.

If Brown is Captain he will keep. I think, based on form with the bat Burgess gets ahead of Evans by a mile in 4 day. The problem area is who opens? 3-7 is fairly well covered. I like Jordan batting. Where has he been Davo? Oh, you've been batting that tyro Wiese above him! I said many times, no place for Wiese with Jordan in the mix. Seamers, as I predicted, are developing into a fine group. Still need rotation in 4 day cricket. Still a place for spinners. They will knock over the tail quicker than the seamers. Interesting stats from liquid, agreed Beer should have played, but some of us having been saying that for years! Set up for a win now. If they do, more questions to Davo & Greenfield, why did you get it so wrong against Derby and Northants? Dereliction of duty or just out of there depths? I think the latter. When pressure is on, they do not perform. On the criteria they use for players they would be released. Is their a different set of rules for management?
