I love the condescension of "no doubt some credit to Sussex". I wonder why he hasn't been able to get a job until this deputy assistant media handpumper job with Sri Lanka came along?

Sadly Adams is not in my mental association now filed next to "Stewart, A" in the sightly delusional square chinned blame avoiders bucket. It's a shame especially as Adams did a (marginally!)better job at Surrey.
P.S. How I wish they'd charged Stewart with corruption for frequenting with book makers back in the 90s.
P.P.S. Botham suggesting Jordan changes his run up on Sky...nooooooooooooooooooooo!

"context" hh is all. Chris Adams deserves more credit than you seem to give. "Good knock from Dilshan - great ball from Jordan!" - Where does the credit lie in this statement?

What is Botham on about? "Jordan gets nothing from his run up. There's no hustle or bustle. He could bowl the same pace off three paces. That's the problem."
I hate it when former great players spout such ignorant nonsense about their succesors!

I hate it when former great players spout such ignorant nonsense about their succesors! I wouldn't presume to criticise Jordan, Botham or you, BM. However, I have noticed, from watching Jordan side on from the pavilion, his run up is quite gentle and the ball speed seems to come from the use of shoulder and arm in the delivery stride. This is how it looks to me, and I therefore find Botham's comment interesting, without knowing whether or not he is right!

I'm sure you are right that his pace largely comes from the shoulder,fb.
It was the suggestion that this means he could bowl at the same speed (high-80s) off three paces that I thought was daft. I think his run-up is fluid and rhythmic and integral to the way he bowls. If the England coaches (with or without Botham's advice) start messing about with it, you just know that his pace, wicket-taking ability and everything else will go backward rather than forward, as with Finn and so many others...
And on an aesthetic level , I'd also say to Sir Ian give me fluid and rhythmic over hustle and bustle any day!

Well, CJ just goes from strength to strength - 5 for 29 off 8 overs!

Well, CJ just goes from strength to strength - 5 for 29 off 8 overs! Yeah, but if he'd listened to Botham's advice, perhaps he would have taken 8 for 19 off four overs! Been waiting for some kind of apology from Botham - or at least a grudging acknowlegment that the boy done OK. But I haven't heard a word!

Happy to oblige, From his Wikipedia entry link : "Botham's private life has also made occasional dramatic appearances in Britain's tabloid newspapers, with at least one extramarital affair prompting a public apology to his wife Kathy"

To be fair, having watched and listened to it all today, Botham is very complimentary about CJ and is one of many who thinks he could improve with a better run up, which does look trudge-like. Holding agrees; there's two who know a bit about bowling. That said, I understand the concern given what England have done to all their quicks lately. Saker has said changing it right now ain't an option, cos of the form.

Whilst we're all thrilled to bits with Chris's progress, his likely absence from our championship campaign is a huge blow. How are we going to replace, not only his wickets, but the fact that he is a pretty good number eight. In fact Robbo says he could eventually bat higher than that. So, somehow we need to find a match winning all rounder. Possible candidates include, Zaidi, who's done little to justify even being in the squad, or Piolet. Neither seem likely match winners with the ball though do they. By all accounts Hatchet is bowling really well for the seconds and surely now deserves his chance. Is our batting strong enough for us to play four out and out bowlers.

When are the next set of central contracts announced? Because Jordan is surely certain to get one and looks set to play all three formats for England for the foreseeable future - which is going to put him in the same bracket as Broad and Anderson, who make no more than one or two appearances for their county per season.

At least when he gets a central contract, we know where we stand and any appearances from him, we treat as a bonus. What we then have to do, is use the money to find another match winning all rounder, no easy task. Until then we are somewhat handicapped, unable to call on the services of Chris Jordan, and not in the position to bring in a replacement mid season. It was not difficult to see this coming though and maybe more could have been done to offset the loss of two potential match winners, in Jordan and Panesar.
