Has Jordan actually been injured since joining us? He's played a remarkable amount of cricket considering his injury record at Surrey. This was perhaps inevitable to happen at some stage.

I don't think that you can reasonably say that Jordan has been injury prone since he came to Sussex: in fact he has been much fitter, happier, and bowled a hundred times better as a result than when he was at Surrey. The situation with Shahzad is more interesting. He did have a history of niggling injuries in his latter days at Yorkshire, then Lancs and Notts, but the general feeling was that rather than an inherent fitness problem these masked his discomfort with his place in those teams and the roles he was expected to undertake. In the first few matches he played for Sussex there was no evidence of any malaise; in fact he quickly became the cheerleader, the clapper and encourager in the field, and the team responded in those early days. After his first pectoral injury and in his absence the team has been quieter and looked less cohesive. It does look as if the original diagnosis "Shahzad will be out for a couple of weeks" was ludicrously inaccurate - remember, this was at the same time as "Yardy picked up a calf strain and he'll be out for 6 weeks". Now we have to accept that a pectoral tear does require rest and hope that he might just come back for the last game or two. I do agree that we have to be very cautious indeed about the medical history of the prospects we look at. Mills certainly, great T20 find though he is, should never have been treated as a main line, all formats fast bowler and the word from Essex that he had grave problems should have been heeded.

Jordan was very injury prone before he came to Sussex and so Robinson can't really complain about him getting injured as he has a history of getting injured and we have been lucky that he has remained fit until now. The reason why Essex weren't that bothered about losing Mills is because he is always injured. Shahzad certainly has fitness issues which were an issue when he was at Yorkshire, Lancashire and Notts.

Had a good chat with Chris last night, said he's looking forward to going away with England in the winter and is determined with the rest of the lads to get us back up to Div1 straight away. Good news.

Back from a week in France (great fun watching the massacre by the All-Blacks surrounded by a bunch of suicidal Frenchies!) and surprised to read that Jordan has signed for Sylhet Super Stars in the Bangladesh T20 franchise.
Ajmal Shahzad must be fit again as he put himself up for the auction but nobody wanted him. In fact, of the 50 plus English players who offered themselves, only Jordan, Malan, Stevens, Ten Doeschate, Bopara and Cobb seem to have found buyers.

Shahzad needs to get himself fit, so some competitive bowling for someone this winter would be good. The major question marks have to be over Anyon and Mills, and will they be fit enough to potentially bowl in all formats? If the answer is no, then we cannot keep them on the staff. If Jordan can re-ignite his England career, we could find ourselves struggling for seamers again.

Off to the IPL - so don't expect to see him at Hove until May (assuming he finds a buyer).
One of the four players in the current England set up in the auction, along with Billings, Buttler, and Morgan. KP also in it, of course. Think Bopara and Carberry may also have persuaded their counties to release them and there may be a few others, too.

Seriously doubt he'll get picked but this stuff always has and always will leave a bitter taste in my mouth. Shouldn't be happening with any of them, completely unproven to be beneficial and a hindrance on the more important longer form. They can go and play in that cesspit of corruption when they're 35, finished and in need of a benefit supplement - like all the other foreign players involved.

May be Jordan won't get picked. But apparently England/ECB only agreed to issue NOCs to Jordan,Buttler and Billings on the basis of at least one franchise having already expressed a positive interest.

One wonders if he was offered a 2 or 3 year extension . . .

I'm hearing that Chris Jordan won't be joining up with Sussex until some time in May at the earliest, as he's gone in for a shoulder OP This is seriously bad news if true, our already threadbare seam attack, already tragically missing Matt Hobden, the AWOL Jimmy Anyon, and now this. Anyone know anything?

Oh dear, well I suppose we all saw it coming. In fact, I had a bet with a friend, that we wouldn't see any more of CJ than we did last season, when he did have a central contract
