I would hope that Jordan is released to play some cricket for Sussex now as he is not going to play at Headingley next week. Wood will be given another chance and Stokes's runs keep him in the team. Broad and Anderson are undroppable it seems.

It's hard to find many positives for Sussex, particularly when it comes to bowling, but the news that Footitt has been chosen for the ridiculous strength-and-golf training camp pre-Ashes, and a different set of selections for the remaining New Zealand T20 probably suggest that Jordan is not in the minds of those now selecting for England, at least at present. Assuming his side strain isn't masking anything more significant, I wonder if we could have him back on Sunday week at Edgbaston? It would add strength in every department for Sussex, take a load off Magoffin and keep Robinson from rummaging through the bins of the other sides.

He's saying on his twitter that he expects to be ruled out for at least a month, so I'd think it unlikely that he'd be available for the next two championship games

Agree, no more bin rummaging We are currently without, Jordan, Mills, Shahzad, Anyon and Hatchett, all to long term injuries, so I think we need a longer term solution. I would, if finances permitted, bring in another bowler, but I'd look for the best Kolpak we could find. These short term loan deals are a farce.

More from Jordan: “I’ve been told I’ll probably be out for four weeks but it is very vague at the moment so I’ve just got to take it a day at a time and see where I am. I don’t want to rush back as there is a danger I could aggravate it."

the ridiculous strength-and-golf training camp pre-Ashes Normally I'd agree with that and file it alongside such other England follies as Andy Flower's Ashes cookbook. But on this occasion as none of the England squad know their new coach, four days in Spain is possibly not a bad idea as an opportunity for Bayliss and players to hold a getting-to-know-you session?

A get to know you session is fine and could be held anywhere, over a couple of days in a spa hotel. Four days in Spain is a junket, whoever the coach is.

Easyjet to Malaga and four nights at a parador in Torremelinos cheaper than two days at a UK spa resort!
