If we signed Tredwell and Harris we'd be proper contenders if you ask me. It's a case of whether we have the money or willingness to really go for it. Maybe it would mean one of our senior players leaving. I worry how Rory is going to fit in the squad, perhaps Middlesex would be interested if Harris was coming the other way?
Nash, Wells/Machan, Yardy, Joyce, Cachopa, Wright, Prior, Jordan, Harris, Tredwell, Magoffin
Imagine that team

Lancashire will be looking for seamers as Chapple and Kabir Ali possibly joining Hogg in retirement and with Newby set to be released with Prince reversing his decision to retire by possibly staying for one more season.

Likely that Wayne White will be returning to Derbyshire as well. They still have a fair hand of seamers though

Of course you are correct but Harris, tredwell and jordan( central contract) are not Sussex players....so that leaves our fine team three bowlers short. And we can call names but do not know if they are available and affordable. With no new signings the three places go to hatchett, anyon and Zaidi or beer. In my view the greatest need is for two new seamers and it will be difficult to find them .

I wonder if Mark Footitt from Derbyshire might fill any possible seamer vacancy that we should have, although being a Division Two bowler, the ability to bowl well in division one could be tricky to predict.

Footitt is one of the best in that division, certainly one of the quickest but seems to be very much part of Derbyshire's plans. Maybe the easiest to prize away from that division might be Tymal Mills. Rumours around that he's unsettled and an opportunity to play in the top division might appeal to him. Topley seems to have established himself as Essex's first choice left arm seamer

Footitt recently signed a new two year contract.
My point Wally with Lancashire is that with four senior seamers leaving who are on good money they have plenty of cash available. Can Sussex compete with them? Durham will presumably be looking to replace Stokes. Warwickshire will be doing the same with Woakes.

And I was agreeing with you.it will be hard to find a quality seamer in competition with other counties . And we need two. One year ago Derbyshire were in the first division and I watched both their games against Sussex.Footitt wasn't all that impressive and when derby beat us it was groenwald that got the Michelle.

Another impressive performance from Footitt today, I just can't see Derbyshire parting with either him, or Palladino. Harris has again been left out of the Middlesex side playing Somerset, and I think he would be a realistic target, even though he remains under contract. If we will only sign one seamer, would it be someone like Harris who bowls low 80's or would we look to get someone more Jordan's pace? Both would be ideal, though we do have Anyon and Hobden who are both pretty hostile.

Most of the potential new seam bowling options lend themselves more towards the four day game. Only Willey really offers something in one day cricket, not just with his bowling, but through his batting as well. If we have to go, horses for courses, I'd rather see someone come in to take the workload off of Steve Magoffin's shoulders. Assuming Arafat returns, who would partner him as a death bowler? The best scenario of course, would be a return to form for Chris Liddle. Completely out of sorts this season, but still under contract next year, a return to the high standards of two years ago would be welcome.

OK latest gossip on the seamer front. Word is that we have George Edwards, formerly of Surrey (who else) on trial Good or bad? From the Surrey Messageboard, after announcement of his release: He looked better than a pie-chucker, but got hit around. I don't understand why he wasn't brought on for a few overs towards the end of that match when we knew we would lose. Nothing else was working, we could've given him a couple of overs. He looked better in a couple of other outings. A shame - could have been a good bowler for us. I look forwards to him going to Sussex, and turning his career around like other fast bowlers.
The Surrey Messageboard has more than its fair share of grumbling and score-settling. Apparently there was a scene in a Second XI match against Sussex at Purley where Edwards refused to bowl and had an altercation with his captain on the pitch. There is also a suggestion that he lacks control, particularly in one-day matches. All of this has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

There were also supporters questioning whether he perhaps had the right attitude. Worth having a look I suppose, although there is nothing in his stats to indicate that he could make an impact in the top division. The only issue for me would be, I wouldn't want to eat into the budget as we'll need every penny if we are looking to bring in a ready made replacement for Jordan.

There's no such animal as 'a ready made replacement for Jordan'. And if there were we wouldn't afford it. Pie in The Sky.
