There is a running commentary on this thread on the Kent messageboard by a rather sad Kent blowhard who clearly has nothing better to do than eavesdrop here.
Blowhard now says that borderman "started the rumour" that Tredwell was thinking of leaving Kent for Sussex. That's very flattering, mate, and this messageboard has had its share of scoops (including the news of his loan before either Kent or Sussex announced it); but I have to confess on this occasion we first learnt of the story from Kent Sports News, who got it direct from the Kent dressing room; it was then confirmed that same day by The Guardian (link posted above).
He also says that this board had claimed that SH's story in the Argus had been written "with Tredwell's permission". Eh? Why on earth would Steve seek Tredwell's approval for a story that was sourced to the Sussex coach? What was actually said was that Sussex could not have had talks with Kent about signing Tredwell without prior knowledge that the player was indeed prepared to make such a move. It will be fascinating to see how the poor old boy manages to mangle our probably pointless attempt to straighten him out!

"Robinson has also confirmed that Sussex are unlikely to make any further signings this winter ā with the exception of an overseas player for Twenty20..."
So, why has Azeem Rafiq been trialling at Hove this week? This doesn't make any sense. Certainly, the Club Chairman talked of two new signings over the Winter and that has been accomplished. Perhaps, that's it for now and Sussex await the end of Tredwell's Kent contract in 2015 and sign him for 2016 and beyond.
It seems hard to accept that Sussex will be a serious challenger for the Championship Trophy next season when the county have no proven front-line spinner.

Maybe he didn't want to be presumptuous? I imagine there will be other triallists about the place this winter but you can't come out and say you're going to sign them, if only to keep the other players happy. Plus there's expectations to be managed now after the excellent signings we've had thus far.

Notts and Durham have both won Championships in recent years without proven front line twirlers, although their home surfaces are admittedly more conducive to seam bowling.

Ugh. This numpty on the Kent messageboard is not only muddle-headed but thoroughly nasty with it. Despite Robinson confirming that Sussex had talks with Kent over Tredwell's move, he continues to insist the story was invented by this messageboard - and specifically by me - and knowing that I have lost 90 per cent of the sight in my left eye, he has written: "Can't see it myself but then, when I checked in the mirror this morning, I still had two eyes!"
I don't know what you do about such offensive, blackhearted malevolence. Ignore it, I suppose. And remind oneself that in the country of the blind the one-eyed man is king?

You can't engage logically with a moron, BM - and a malicious one at that, by the sound of it. I recall finding myself in this position on another MB - I ended up telling him that he could come back to me if and when he was willing to discuss the matter in a civil and logical way. Until then, he was merely exposing his frailties to the rest of the MB. You can't stop someone being stupid, but you can draw it to the attention of the mods and other members of the relevant MB.

Well we now have it from Tredwell's own mouth that he seriously considered leaving Kent for Sussex - www.kentonline.co.uk/canterbury/sport/tredwell-considered-quitting-kent-before-26909/āIām not going to lie, the thought of leaving crossed my mind. I enjoyed the challenge of Division 1 cricket. I have faced a big quandary over the last part of the season and some people will say I should have gone." Although Kentish Blowhard will no doubt go to his grave insisting that Kent Sports News, The Guardian, Robinson and Tredwell are all fibbers and the entire story was a "lie" started by the Sussex messageboard. He even claims that the "quandary"/"big decision" Tredwell described in interviews was not about whether to leave Kent but "whether to sign a contract extension now or leave it for a while." Thanks for the advice,fb. I have brought the posts mocking the loss of vision in my left eye to the attention of the adminstrator of the Kent messageboard. It has also been pointed out to me that discrimination or abuse of the partially-sighted is covered under The Disability Discrimination Act 1995, so I have copied the correspondence to the director of the Partially Sighted Society. Tredwell is a lovely chap, one of the best, as everyone at Sussex saw last summer, so let us all wish him the best at Kent in his battle to win his place back from Adam Riley.
