Cover for CJ I should imagine now he has a few T20 gigs again. Nice to see Keith Greenfield and Jason Gillespie acting swiftly with their signings so far, good cover across all 3 formats now.

Decent signing as long as he can stay fit.

This tweet cracked me up given the average age of a fast bowler retiring is 33 years-old. Ali Martin cricket _Ali Really good move. Sussex have a very strong record of producing/improving fast bowlers. Still just 30.
Meaker may have a few more years left in the tank, but fitness could well be a problem. As for fulfilling his potential, spinners are better at improving with age. Meaker has passed his best and why Surrey are happy to let him go. Another one, perhaps, to help the youngsters alongside Mitchell Claydon. (Click on Tweet for video)

It's a better signing than Claydon that's for sure. What a ridiculous waste that is. What a statement. What a joke. But Meaker, I liked him on rent-a-ghost so yeah, welcome.

You weren't far off having Mr Claypole as well (and surely no one liked him).

Claydon's decent across all 3 formats so for me it's a sensible signing as he will provide adequate back up to the bowling attack whilst also having several years experience to pass on to the younger members of the team. We look like weve a more balanced squad this year.

Is that several years experience, or 70 years? Any club that signs a 37 year old is a desperate one.

Thomason? It's hard to know what the Sussex Secret Service CC squad is these days. Or how long each player is with us. If they're still with us. If they were ever with us. SSSCC's own website doesn't have Claydon or Bopara in the squad. BBC's does but that also has Barton, Oxley, Hooper & Jenner, who ain't on the SSSCC one. Annoying club these days.
Seems we have Robinson, Garton, Jordan, Archer, Wiese, Thomason, Claydon, Sheffield, Meaker & Mills. You can pretty much rule out two of them, for the best form at least. So probably seven to pick from in April with Jordan to return.
We'd be much better placed if we did have Barton, Hooper, Jenner and Oxley rather than feeling the need to sign old journeymen, as far as I'm concerned. Not exactly the best kept secret though. I just don't wanna see Claydon playing ahead of Garton, Sheffield or Thomason - what's the point in having young players if you have past their best old men keeping them out? No point.

He has coaching experience as well. Whilst i agree signing a 37 year old isn't ideal I just dont think you can say its a bad signing because hes 37.

I think you pick your best players regardless of age.

What of this younger quick bowler that Dizzy suggested was incoming after we signed Claydon? Do you think he meant Meaker, who is after all, younger than Claydon
