Unlock the economy now and force the over 60s and at risk groups to isolate. Why not emigrate to China, say (or North Korea)? With views like this you'd fit right in! 92% of coronavirus deaths are over 60. For their own safety they need to be isolated until it is safe to do otherwise. There is absolutely no reason why those under 60 cannot return to work.

Of course we will never get £350m a week. That's just for the side of a bus.

£350m a week pails into insignificance when compared to £2.4bn a day which the current lock down is costing the UK economy. There is an alternative. To isolate the over 60s, who account for 92% of the deaths to coronavirus, and those with pre-existing medical conditions and allow the rest of the country to return to work. I accept there is a risk for over 60s, BAME's and those with pre-existing medical conditions but I don't see this as a reason to lock down the whole country.

Hopefully the removal of the lock down in Spain and Italy works because it's our best way out of this madness.
Surprise, surprise China's actual coronavirus death toll is over 1m.
The following quote is my favorite part of the article:
“The figure of 3,000 deaths is absolute b******s."
I think we can all guess the starred word!

Well they've tried a different tictac - I'd like to know what they expected when they did that. They're still not as bad as us, Italy, Spain... who went the lockdown route, so explain that? They should hang tight with confidence, at least they ain't skint. Millions are probably infected in Sweden, 1500 have died.

Whatever route Sweden take, you wouldn't expect them to have as many cases or deaths as countries such as the UK, Spain or Italy according to my son (PhD in Biomedical Science) due to the fact that thy are a much less crowded country with a colder climate. The question for them is whether following the 'standard' lockdown route would have led to fewer cases/deaths they eventually end up with.

Message to the Administrator :- PLEASE REMIND EVERYBODY TO KEEP POLITICS & THE TIRESOME GRUDGES FOR A DIFFERENT FORUM !! I'm not aware of any "tiresome grudges". Robust discussion, yes. This thread is all about the 2020 Cricket season, and the handling of the Covid virus is by far the largest factor affecting this season. All possible scenarios for this season are dependent on Covid-19, so it's bound to be the main topic of conversation. Are there other aspects of the 2020 season you'd like to discuss, imranswife1 ?

I’m letting this thread run under Sussex matches for now. As flashblade says, Coronavirus is the main topic that affects the 2020 season right now. By contrast, if someone diverted the thread to how Coronavurus will affect Brexit, for example, I will move that part of the discussion to the Off Topic area. I hope that answers your point, imranswife1. If you want to open a new thread on a specific topic related to the Sussex’s 2020 season or scheduled fixtures, please go ahead.

Stockholm is about as populated as Birmingham I think - they're doing better than Birmingham, although they're behind on the curve I guess. Time will tell but Sweden are sliding down the table like a Sussex team with Keith Greenfield in it - or the 90s team. They do have cultural differences there though which are interesting, like 50 odd percent of people living on their tod, apparently.
