The first Test in this series starts today. We're lucky the ECB have worked so hard to put these games together in such testing times, must be a logistical nightmare with all the different ‘bubbles’ etc.
Will Jofra play in this one?

Good question. If Stokes is going to bowl, Jofra may lose out, I fear. He doesn't seem to be so effective on slowish wickets. Woakes and Curran add more variety to the attack.

Stokes still not 100% fit so team stays the same. Think Crawley is unlucky because Stokes not able to bowl much they’ve gone with the extra bowler. I agree re Curran, I think you should always have a left arm option if available and he’s proven himself, especially in England.
Pakistan have a new crop of young bowling potential super stars, should be a good series.

Some sad news to report from Old Trafford - Jimmy Anderson has lost his hair band. The hair band bunch are to comment at lunch but the understanding is that Jimmy and Stuart have had a disagreement about whether Covid has gone or not.

How long before the selectors bring in a proper wicketkeeper? Buttler just wasn't up to it yesterday. Would love to see Ben Foakes given another go.

Hasn’t been up to it for a long time and with his lack of runs he needs to go the way of Denly and Vince. Foakes is by far the superior keeper in my opinion but he’s not one of ‘Joe’s boys‘

The pundits have been praising Buttler's keeping, yesterday aside, or because of yesterday. One bad day? I agree with you two knuckle heads personally, except about the replacement - for me it's still Bairstow, plenty of time for Foakes. Bairstow is by far the best batsman in longer form cricket.

More examples of Root's inept, tactically unaware and defensive captaincy going on since the comeback. He ain't learning, he ain't a captain.
I would bring Wood in for the petulant Archer in the next game. We don't need another 85mph right armer, he's in the team to bowl 90 plus. Wood does regularly, so get him in instead. I didn't like Archer's arsie interview with Atherton, he's got a chip on his shoulder. Try harder, or don't play. You're cruising.

If England wanted a glorified waiter to carry drinks around they could have hired one of the thousands of people who have been recently been laid off instead of taking Robinson from Sussex.

I understand your frustration/annoyance, but I doubt that's why they called him up! I think he'll be delighted that England are showing such an interest in him. He'll be put through his paces in the nets, and an England cap must be one step closer. As always, the county's needs are subservient to England's.

Is there any realistic prospect of him playing with Anderson, Broad, Woakes, Archer, Curran and Wood ahead of him in the pecking order?

BTW, Anderson looks to be fading, and with the rotation policy in force, who knows? There may be some injuries that you and I know nothing about.

What an amazing come-back by England. Absolutely riveting day's play.

Not sure I like so many reverse sweeps when chasing down a decent target in a Test match but all credit to Buttler and Woakes for their match-winning partnership. I’m not sure England would have got home if a wicket had fallen with 50-60 runs to go but a great game.
