I must apologise to Luke Wells for doubting his form in the last match as he's doing a job again.

I suppose we bat out the day here and stick em in after another half hour of bang bang cricket in the morning.

Good to hear Sussex have gained 3rd place so long as we either draw or win this match. So, don't expect any batting fireworks from Sussex this afternoon.

Gone off for bad light with 8 overs left in the day. 209-3, Wells on 91.

In the bag this one. Bat for eight or nine overs, stick 'em in, and bowl them out for 200 odd. It's an easy game. Five for the Axe-Man tomorrow I reckon. Zaidi should have a say, as our senior twirler. Great stuff from Wells, and in your defense Max, he was when you said it, presumably.

So third place and all Sussex need to do is bat out until after lunch. How on earth did they end up third. Maybe the first division is not as tough as we like to think it is. It seems to consist of one or two teams who play well all season, one or two teams who play really bad all season and the rest who mix good and bad like rock and roll Third is a bonus - when you look at the bowling attack in this game, third really is a bonus What we do without Mags? The thought it truly horrifying - a star performer yet again, but Joyce must have pushed him close this year (and maybe pipped him - is there a player of the season thread yet?). I guess I could apply my rational of the first division to Sussex, one or two players have been brilliant all season, one or two poor and the rest have mixed good and bad like Sonny and Cher. I hope I remember to tune in for the last day of the season tomorrow - going to be a real nail biter at Old Trafford. What an end for those two www.espncricinfo.com/county-cricket-2014/content/current/story/784599.html

I know it's wrong, I know it's off-topic, but I have to ask: what was the good bit about Sonny and Cher?

Sussex will do well to get a result out of this, the pitch has nothing in it, particularly for the seamers. Good thing is, we don't need a result, a draw will do, so no need for any generous declarations. There is little to gain by taking risks, but plenty to lose. I think Sussex tried but it was hard to force the game on that pitch. Have to say, I found big Wendell most entertaining today, until he ran out of steam about four o'clock

Well done Luke for your 100.
Nash, Zaidi and now Wells - a return to form may be late on but it's helped Sussex thrust forward from a relegation battle to 3rd place.

In effect 356-5 at lunch and Sussex have gained 3rd spot in the Championship. A remarkable achievement given the horrific malaise the players were engulfed in when the match-fixing allegations were back page news. Perhaps, no other coach but Robinson could have achieved such an emphatic turn-a-round in fortune.
Unless Northants experience a dramatic batting collapse on such a soft pitch and Mags gains a miraculous 8 wickets, Sussex will end up with 210 points - their highest Division 1 total since winning the Championship in 2007.
For me, what Robinson has achieved this season, given all the many different challenges faced both on and off the field, matches his 2007 success.

Hey, fluffy - I think you should get off the fence re Robbo's achievements.

fb, I don't often praise Robbo but, for me, this season has been exceptional. Like many, a few months back I was fully expecting a dire relegation battle as the season progressed and to see us end up 3rd still requires some pinching. When praise is due etc, etc.. but I agree I've had my say now. PS: Contract negotiations with Magoffin are advanced and there is a strong view he will re-sign. The problem being, he is 35 years-old in December. How many seasons are left in his locker?
