Another keeper, Ron Nicholls the Gloucs player. He played for various clubs, including Bristol Rovers. He was in goal when they defeated the Busby Babes in 1956 4-0 in the FA Cup. One of Rovers scores was another cricketer Barry Meyer..

Hans Googly, the dual national who famously got 100 caps for Germany as a cricketer and 100 caps for India as a goalkeeper. He'd have been much more famous had it been the other way round. And it would have suited his name.

A few other interesting little snippets.
Bill (fatty) Foulkes who put the late, great Colin Milburn literally in the shade, was Goalkeeper for Sheffield Utd, Bradford City, Chelsea and England, but I recall seeing him make his debut for Derbyshire CCC in 1900 when Queen Victoria was still around.
Kevin puts me to shame by naming Ron Nicholls who was in the Gloucestershire cricket squad at the same time Arthur Milton, Harold Jarman and Barry Meyer and who I omitted on an earlier thread when speculating the relative strength of footballing abilities of cricketing counties during the 2 decades after WWII.
Finally, I've filched this from Wiki re Adie Aymes "it was even necessary for Aymes to put on his boots and play in goal for Fleet. When goalkeeper Tyrone King fell awkwardly and went to hospital, Aymes played in goal for the second half. He let in two goals as Fleet lost to Sittingbourne 3–0" so although an outfield player, it would be churlish to disallow his place among the distinguished cricketer/goalkeeper Greats.

Your longevity is impressive! How old were you in 1900?

Sad news that Ray Clemence has passed away after a 15 year battle with the cursed cancer aged only 72. I saw him make his debut for THFC in the Charity Shield back in 1981 and tbh wasn't one of his better games. Ironically he joins a long list of Spurs goalies who died far too early.
Don't know of a cricketing link but I did have the pleasure of meeting him in the early 80s when I worked at a builders merchants in Bexhill and he was guest of honour at an evening PR exhibitions the company was promoting. He was a real gent - professional, articulate, friendly and sociable. A contrast to Geoff Boycott, according to my dad, who had undertaken a similar role at another branch.
RIP.

Following what I said about the premature deaths of Spurs goalkeepers, Milija Aleksic and Mark Kendall who both played for the team all the time Pat Jennings was continuing to ply his trade with aplomb for our N London rivals, both died far too young, as did Terry Lee one of Jennings's understudies who collapsed with a heart attack while representing a Devon league side playing cricket en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_Lee_(footballer)#:~:text=Terence%20William%20George%20Lee%20(20,United%2C%20Newport%20County%20and%20Minehead.

Gary Montgomery played 1st team football for Rotherham and Grimsby in goal, and like Joe Gatting after retiring from football switched to cricket appearing for Lancashire in 2010.

Has now passed barely a month after diagnosis. Lived life in the fast lane and is only man to represent Scotland internationally at both football and cricket. RIP
