In Sussex's ninth T20 fixture of the season, Sussex entertain Kent. Kent have won six and lost two of their eight games. This is the same ratio of wins to losses as Sussex, but whereas Kent have completed every match, Sussex have only managed to complete four of their eight games. Consequently, Kent are two points ahead of Sussex in second place behind Gloucestershire.
Kent also have a home fixture against Somerset on Monday evening, which means they will come to Hove as League leaders as long as they do not lose. Kent started their season well with three wins on the trot. In each of these three games, they batted first and successfully defended totals between 176 and 183. In the fourth outing at Taunton, the hosts, Somerset, scored 204 batting first, which pushed Kent too far. Comfortable wins over Essex and Glamorgan were followed by a resounding defeat at Bristol. Gloucestershire chased down 148 with more than six overs to spare. Kent look to be in a strong position, but will be mindful of the fact that four of their last six games in the group stages are against Sussex and Surrey.
Runs have been shared around this season with Zak Crawley, Jack Leaning, Daniel Bell-Drummond and Jordan Cox all scoring over 200 runs. Similarly, bowling responsibilities have been shared around with Matthew Milnes and Fredrick Klaassen taking 13 and 11 wickets respectively this season.
It's an important game for both sides. Can Sussex actually get to complete this game and win? Or, will all the players be able to watch England v Germany without having to focus on a game of cricket? We are just going to have to wait and see, I guess.
