What a disappointing campaign it’s been. We thought this would be our best chance of silverware this season but for many reasons it’s been a disaster. Injury, illness, recruitment, selection, poor form, management etc etc.
So this is the last chance to bring a bit of pride back to Hove and to send Will Beer off in style. I’m guessing the team will be something like this.
Orr Ward Rizwan Alsop Bopara Rawlins Garton Khan Beer Mills Finn

I'll tune in to watch Orr. Tonight's the night for the 50 ball ton.
Horrific campaign, good riddance to it.
And good riddance to the Chuckle brothers in the office when they're finally booted out in October.

And we really need to give Haines a dig.

This game is perfect for our new talent. Hampshire will be trying hard to win. If Kirtley doesn't use this to drop the oldies and overseas then it will speak volumes about him and his management style.

I’ve never been a big fan of Will Beer, he’s a decent 2nd XI cricketer at best IMO, but when there’s nothing riding on the result and it’s his last game it would be a bad show not to let him pull on the shirt for the last time. He’s not likely to do any worse than Lenham.

I would make four changes from the Essex game with Haines, Carter, Ibrahim and Beer replacing Philippe, Bopara, Khan and Finn. We haven't been winning with the big name overseas and experienced players.
My team for Hampshire would be Orr, Haines (c), Alsop, Ward, Rawlins, Carter wk, Garton, Ibrahim, Beer (his final game for Sussex), Lenham, Crocombe. There is no point playing Bopara, Finn, Khan, Mills, Philippe or Rizwan.

Just a thought. Is Alsop contractually our player yet or is he still technically on loan from Hants and only becomes a Sussex player from next season?
If the former, I am guessing under the rules he is ineligible for selection for the Hants match.
On a seperate topic, it will be interesting to see if Will Beer gets selected and given a last chance to say farewell after 15 years service.
Mixed thoughts on this second point, there is nothing at stake so it would be a nice gesture, but if we want to finish with a win for me he doesn't make our first eleven at present.
Would be good to see Haines and Carter, particularly if Alsop is ineligible (Alsop and Lenham to make way, we don't need seven bowlers). If fit, I expect they will bring Mills back, but should be for Finn not Crocombe, although I suspect they won't be brave enough to make that call.

Really disappointing selections. Are Kirtley's hands tied. Like Beer, but should not be playing. I despair.

What’s wrong with Mills? No word of any injury.
