Super win. Well done Sussex; and well batted Orr.Pujara and Rawlins. However, I also like to understand the dynamics and value comments on here. Why did Ibrahim open? Strange. Why didn't Ibrahim bowl? Strange. Good to see Clarke turning his arm over;is he now fit to bowl? Where was Alsop? Is he injured? Thought Hudson-Prentice and Carter did ok considering they have spent recent weeks carrying the water.
I'll slightly tone down my criticism of Salisbury and Kirtley; though it would be nice and helpful if they could explain events to help us understand the logic. It's called communication.
We can beat Middlesex.

Whatever way you look at the performance in this competition, it is a big leap up from last season. 5 wins and 2 defeats so far this year, compared to 2 wins, 4 defeats and 2 no results last year.
Pujara plus some much improved youngsters has made us a decent side in this competition. It’s a pity we couldn’t find half a dozen more runs at Edgbaston, but there is some progress.
Next step is to compete when the Hindered isn’t taking place. Currie and Karvelas are a vast improvement over our younger bowlers who should be learning their trade in the 2nds.
If two more youngsters step up like Haines, Orr, Clark and even Rawlins have over the last three seasons, we will start to compete in all formats.

Phil, what I liked yesterday was the team playing with smiles on their faces. A good sign. Regarding the youngsters, your comments are spot on. I would add Carter to the list. He has shown excellent development in red ball; sadly no opportunities in white ball. We have a lot to look forward to in the coming seasons, as long as the lads are well managed.

Great to see Sussex competing in a competition this season, although let us not get carried away.
In hindsight, the 50 over is the perfect tournament for the youngsters to find their mojo, when the other 17 counties have their best cricketers involved with the 100. We don't have any departures apart from Garton, who, partly due to his wretched long Covid, is a ghost of himself this season. So is he really a loss?
It's great to see players like Orr doing so well and for Rawlins to finally come good. And when you add the class of Pujara to the equation, and offer the additions of Currie and Karvelas, everything looks hunky- dory compared to the previous months.
I agree with philh. Let us enjoy the fruits and splendours of the One-Day Cup, but the next and most difficult step is to remain competitive when the top county players return from the 100 in early September.
If we continue this rich vein of form during the remaining three Championship matches, then it really is time to celebrate.

The bowling is still short, injuries or no injuries. Don’t take this the wrong way but Ollie Robinson is a problem. There’s a bit of me that wished we knew whether he was regularly available or went somewhere else. We are nearer a good squad than we were a year ago.

I am torn, part of me thinks that Rawlins could have come good in last years 50 over comp but he was carrying drinks for the Southern Brave, but then it is tough to tell how much that experience helped him develop by just being around that tournament winning squad, he has been very consistent in both the Blast and now the 50 over this year. Eoin Morgan was very vocal about the big difference in the Eng 2015 World Cup Squad vs the 2019 World Cup Squad was their exposure to the IPL. Hoping a few of these great crop of Sussex youngsters get some more exposure in the BBL and other T20 leagues this winter

Lots of different permutations but bottom line is we need to win on Tuesday to advance.

Lots of different permutations but bottom line is we need to win on Tuesday to advance. ...or we need Somerset or Durham to do us a favour, which based on their performances thus far in this year's tournament is unlikely. Barring a massive turnaround in our net run rate, Notts and Gloucestershire are unlikely to finish above us. Win and it is a home semi-final!! The irony is if we had been in the other group we would have already qualified with ten points. A consequence of the gap between the top six and Surrey, Durham and Somerset who have only won three games between them.

No coincidence that Surrey and Somerset have lost the most players to The 100.

If we continue this rich vein of form during the remaining three Championship matches, then it really is time to celebrate. An excellent post Wicked. It is wonderful finally seeing Sussex compete and win matches, but we need to be both realistic and keep our feet on the ground. I was at the ground on Friday and it was interesting talking to some of the Somerset supporters who given their depleted side had already written off their chances in the game once we had passed 200. Their team being made up of last minute signings, an emergency loan and a number of youngsters, some of whom they knew little or nothing about. Despite all this, they are still some of the most partisan and loyal supporters going and the large crowd still cheered on every wicket and boundary for their side. There is no doubt progress is being made by our young group, both within individual players and as a team collectively, but the actual degree can neither be fully measured or appreciated until we produce consistently across all formats against fully strength opposition. If anyone is in doubt, just take a look at the County Championship and T20 Tables for the current season. Even with the current group, there is still work to be done in improving both the playing and coaching staff. Our Royal London Cup exploits are a sticking plaster, albeit very welcome. In the meantime, let us enjoy the moment and irrespective of the outcome on Tuesday a far more successful campaign than many of us anticipated when we first took to the field against Nottinghamshire and lost by 65 runs on the 2nd August. A pleasant memory from Friday... Ali Orr's first six in just the second over for those who know the Taunton ground cleared the retirement flats. At the time, we clearly didn't appreciate it was the start of something quite exceptional.

Think I might swap Hunt in for Crocombe if he’s 100% fit.
