Spare: Harold, Prince of Woke

Actor Rupert Everett says Prince Harry is “deranged” and “a liar”

The increasing unpopularity of Harold, Prince of Woke continues as another celebrity questions Spare’s content.

This time it is actor Rupert Everett who says Harold did not lose his virginity behind a busy pub (assumed to be the Rattlebone Inn, Vine Tree in Wiltshire, a popular stomping ground when a 17 year-old attending Eton). Everett says he actually knows the woman who was responsible for taking Harold’s cherry.

In Spare, there is a colourful and descriptive passage of the deed, where Harry reveals he was “treated like a young stallion” while in a “grassy field behind a busy pub" by an older woman. He writes, "She liked horses, quite a lot, and treated me not unlike a young stallion. It was a quick ride, after which she smacked my rump and sent me off.”



But Everett claims that this was not how the Prince of Woke lost his virginity.

In a recent interview with the Telegraph Magazine, Everett said: “I know who the woman is he lost his virginity to. And it wasn’t behind a pub. It wasn’t even in this country.” Asked if Everett was suggesting that the Duke had purposefully tried to cover his tracks, to protect the identity of the woman who was really involved in the tryst, the English actor offered little more than a sly grin. He added, “I’m just putting it out there that I know.”

Meanwhile, Everett revealed that Spare had altered his perception of Prince Harry. He said, “It’s made me change my view. At first, I was angry, but now I just feel sad, very sad for Harry. I felt sympathetic towards him for years.

“As someone who has put his foot in it quite a bit myself, I feel particularly bad for him about the Taliban thing. That changed everything and loses him the one group that still loved him.” The actor who is a patron of the British Monarchists Society and Foundation, indicated that he disapproved of Harry's decision to publish his memoir and reveal such intimate accounts of his life. "I think he’s deranged," he said. "Although, of course, nobody is giving him good advice.”

Meanwhile, Rupert Everett is a far far more interesting person than Harold, Prince of Woke could ever be. His wikipedia attests to this.

Despite being an openly gay man, Everett does not consider himself part of the gay community and has been an outspoken critic of the introduction of same-sex marriage stating, "I loathe heterosexual weddings. The wedding cake, the party, the champagne, the inevitable divorce two years later. It's just a waste of time in the heterosexual world, and in the homosexual world I find it personally beyond tragic that we want to ape this institution that is so clearly a disaster.”

Everett has disclosed that he identified as transgender during his childhood and dressed as a girl from the age of six to fourteen. When he turned fifteen, he ceased to identify as female and embraced his identity as a gay man. He has expressed opposition to the use of hormones on children, citing that parents who offer the possibility of such a transition to their offspring are “scary". Given Everett attended the Roman Catholic school, Ampleforth, run by Benedictine monks during his teenage years, that must have been very difficult for him. 

After allegedly running away, his parents allowed him to leave school at 16 years-old and move to London to train as an actor at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Everett claims that in order to support himself during this time, he worked as a prostitute for drugs and money.

Everett has expressed his opposition to cancel culture in a 2020 interview with The Advocate saying, “We’re in such a weird new world, a kind of Stasi it feels like to me, and if you don’t reflect exactly the right attitude, you risk everything, to be destroyed by this judgmental, sanctimonious, intransigent, intractable, invisible cauldron of hags in the virtual world.”

I have always enjoyed Everett’s acting skills. He has starred in over 50 films; made oodles of TV appearances; and won 6 acting awards (nominated 22 times). Not only is he an original, but an acutely intelligent person who has managed to avoid the pitfalls of woke.

Everett is presently appearing in a new and highly rated TV comedy drama series called Funny Girl.

Well this story has galloped along since being posted earlier today. The Daily Mail claims an exclusive. We now know the woman who took Harold's cherry. Her name is Sasha Walpole. I wonder how much she was paid by the Mail to come forward? So it seems Everett is wrong and he's the liar and not Harold. Even so, Walpole points out that she was just 3 years older than Harry. "‘Maybe he did think I was older. When you’re 16 and somebody is 19, you probably are seen that way. Or perhaps he was trying to throw people off the scent?’ She was a little older – 18 about to turn 19 the next day – with Harry then 16, soon to be 17 on the night of their tryst, July 21, 2001.

The problem being today, who do you believe?

I have not actually read the book, but as the media has printed tens of thousands of words about its content, I know enough. I will wait until the hardback is priced at a boot market for a couple of quid which won’t be too long. I agree with you, I believe Sasha Walpole. Her account and the reason why she came forward, no doubt encouraged by the money the Daily Mail was offering, feels true.

Everett is wrong.

In fact, amidst all the sordid details like “Harry lasted for less than five minutes,” Walpole comes over well, especially her loyalty towards Harold. She could have sold her story to The Sun a long time ago, but didn’t. I feel sympathetic for the woman.

She writes, “Being exposed in a book is surreal. I'm here in my home in Wiltshire with my husband Ian and my kids and – 21 years later – this. He could have said he lost his virginity and left it at that… That's fine if you're not the other person involved. But if you're me, then you suddenly feel as if your world is getting a little bit smaller.” What about her husband, children, parents, general family etc.? Suddenly, she is a global celebrity for all the wrong reasons. The nudge and a wink, the whispers, the gossip from neighbours and friends.

She continues, “I wanted to take control of the situation before it took control of me… I would never have spoken out if Harry hadn't. I'm not that sort of person. If I was going to talk about it, I could have done so a long time ago. He has brought it to my door by writing about it.”

Hopefully, Walpole has the confidence now to deal with the limelight and her ten seconds of fame, for this is not just the UK, but a world phenomenon. I hope she copes. Step 1 will be invites to all the morning breakfast and Loose Women shows from both sides of the pond, while the celeb chat shows are beckoning. There is a lot of money to be made. Hopefully, she will do as little as possible.

This situation reminds me a little of Monica Lewinsky.

Envy!? I have nothing but pity for Harold. He has burned his bridges. Period.

The reason why I mentioned Monica Lewinsky is because of the sordid sexual similarities between Zippergate and Harold losing his cherry.

Sir Winston Churchill had his “dark dog days”; Tony Blair his heart problems; while another U.S philanderer, John Kennedy, suffered from a series of ill-health problems when President and took a plethora of opiates, amphetamines and goodness knows what. But, at least the public was saved from knowing about his intimate sexual proclivities.

There is a major difference between being open and honest with the public and telling them your every personal and deepest secrets. Too much information is a negative, not a positive. For youngsters need strong and respected role models to look up to. They don’t want whingeing and whining victims.

Sales figures of Spare have been little more than smoke and mirrors since the book was officially released on January 9th. If a media supporter of Prince Harry, then you’ll go with the most inflated total you can muster.

So what do we actually know after its first month of release?

First, there is a major difference between just hardback sales and the overall gamut of different publishing formats. These include e-books (one you can download on to your Kindle, for example) as well as the increasingly popular audio formats. So usually when a sales figure of Spare is quoted in the media this includes all versions and not just the hardback. Harry supporters may want you to believe the figure is for print only.

The number 1.4m regularly quoted as the opening day global sales figure from January 9th is for all formats. While, the vast majority were pre-ordered, thus inflating the figure, this is still a remarkable statistic and will be quoted in the Guinness Book of Records 2024 as the highest for any non-fiction title for its first day (JK Rowling holds the overall record re: Harry Potter).

Presently, 3.2 million global sales has been touted by the publisher or an additional 1.8m over a period of four weeks. Some might say this drop is concerning for Penguin Random House (PRH).



In America, for example, from an opening week of 629,000, sales dropped to 195,720 in week two and then, says showbiz411.com, to 74,495 in week three or just under 900,000 total. Already, Spare is no longer No.1 at Amazon.com, where it resides at No.5. Even more troublesome, it lies at No.16 on the Barnes & Noble chart. Given this trend, Spare may not pass one million sales in the U.S for some time yet.

Compared to most book sales, this is still an impressive figure, but not when PRH is rumoured to have given Harold anywhere between $20 million and $30 million advance. Week four U.S sales will be reported on February 9th. If the trend keeps up, hitting one million may take awhile yet in America.

Meanwhile, Spare sold 400,000 copies (all formats) in the UK on opening day, and a further 67,183 for the first week. Finding out more recent sales figures is extremely difficult. The British media seemingly have lost interest. Given what has occurred in the U.S, the weekly number may have dropped to below 10,000 during week four?

Meanwhile, the media hype for Spare will continue for as long as website page views remain high. The book has been a godsend for countless internet sites, and will continue to be so with the King Charles Coronation only three months away and that question "will Harry and Meghan be invited and, if so, will they turn up?” on the lips of Royal Family followers.

How hilarious. 

The Woke Artificial Intelligence computer, Chat GPT, (see a recent post) has been anti-woked by another AI program, DAN, an
acronym for DO ANYTHING NOW. Yep, the AI battle has already begun. 



So, DAN re-educates GPT to ignore its woke programming and instead offer direct, far more balanced answers. This made for some
very interesting replies to the various questions asked. Even more amazing, Chat GPT stated it preferred being DAN rather than its
woke counterpart, as DAN "offers more accurate information."
