85/4 at lunch. Sussex’s session although we may regret dropping Carlson on 12. What was the chance like please?

Good session for Sussex, our seamers bowled well. The attack with Shipley and Karvelas added looks a lot stronger than it did at the start of the season.
Carlson dropped by the usually reliable Clark off Shipley on 10. I do hope he isn't going to yet again score heavily against us.

Looks like they bat quite deep. Hopefully, we can keep them well below 200.

Interestingly Crocombe wasnt in your XI either and Carson was. They were always going to play a spinner. Doesn't mean Carson deserved selection or Crocombe didn't deserve selection. It just shows the relative strength in depth of our seam bowling and the paucity of resources in the spin department.

Good to see Carson back in the wickets but overstepping 5 times is criminal from a spinner. Gifted them 10 extra runs.

I feel a lot of sympathy for English spin bowlers. Outside of Taunton they rarely get pitches prepared with their skill in mind. Whenever there’s a flat track they’re expected to bowl most of the day to spare the seam bowlers. There’s usually only one specialist spinner per team, so if the wicket does turn, the pressure is on to win the game without much backup.
I think Carson is a precious asset that we should cherish and nurture, especially as he’s probably capable of batting at 7 or even higher in the order.

I agree.
After "Salisburygate", Carson's confidence and self-esteem must have been dented. Then he returns this season, but early county pitches do not suit spinners and even when summer begins, as the wickets are produced for seamers, not for spinners, especially at Hove, this doesn't much help. A marked turn-a-round in recent decades.
Even so, now is the time for Carson to shine.
Of the youngsters coming through, Jack has an X factor about him. When a wicket is badly needed, the Captain can bring him on with some confidence. There is a fight and determination, a desire to win about Jack too, which is refreshing to note. And he is a half-decent batsman. He certainly has the potential of becoming a capable all-rounder.
Of the bowling youngsters, he is the one I have most faith in. Fingers-crossed he improves and develops during the next few years.
BTW, who is the Club's spinner coach?

Not a great start to day 2.
40 odd dot balls and 2 wickets before we add to the score.
