Hughes and Pujara are welcome but hopefully (surely) there are more quality signings in the pipeline. The most glaring weaknesses are opening bat and taking ten wickets. The middle order is half decent.

Blast XI without any further signings.
WARD HUGHES CARTER COLES ALSOP SIMPSON LAMB MCANDREW CARSON CURRIE MILLS
Certainly not horrendous and again shows the core is there for this side.
Also shows that with 3 or 4 additions we canbe a force again.

Good calibre signings although we still need an overseas bowler for the second half of the season, meaning at least 5 overseas players next year which is too much of a merry-go-round for my liking.
Presumably this also confirms that we won’t have an overseas captain and yet the obvious choice, Simpson, still hasn’t been appointed to this role. It suggests we’re leaving it open for another potential signing. Maybe the club is more optimistic about attracting Carlson than I am!

With Carlson when i asked someone in the know on Saturday if he was an option there was a weird silence from him like i'd rumbled a secret. Maybe its wishful thinking Just imagine that XI put up earlier with Carlson and Roland-Jones in.

Trying to shape the best XI we currently have. Haines Clark Alsop Pujara Coles Simpson FHP Carson Karvelas Seales Hunt Lamb will defo start. No way Farby has signed him not to play him. And unless we sign some players our season rests on whether or not Oli Rob can be bothered to play for us

I doubt he would still be here if there wasn’t something in the offing.

I’m not saying I’d play both! I’m saying Farby will! And if not he will drop FHP. He’s only been allowed two signings he will definitely play them!

No hint at there being more signings to come and no money for an overseas in the 50 over cup.
I’ve got a feeling this is it folks.

No hint at there being more signings to come and no money for an overseas in the 50 over cup. I’ve got a feeling this is it folks. The other way of looking at it is that if we don’t have the money for a 50 over overseas player in spite of the savings made recently it ought to mean some budget is being reserved for at least one more signing. Plus why haven’t we appointed our captain otherwise? However I don’t say this with great confidence! Also from the interview ‘we’re not going to be as competitive in the T20 as last season’. Given how uncompetitive we were for most of that competition, it could be unbearable! Let’s hope we do better than expected.

No hint at there being more signings to come and no money for an overseas in the 50 over cup. I’ve got a feeling this is it folks. If that’s the case then it’s poor recruitment. 35yo Simpson - the signing is fine, the uber-long contract is not. He won’t believe his luck. also it remains to be seen if Carter sticks around in light of Simpson’s arrival. And a non-wicket taking allrounder who has been passed around the counties. We already have a decent batting allrounder, so the Lamb signing makes even less sense. As for overseas signings, it’s similar quality to recent years. And we are losing some players, and never got Wright. This is a far cry from Farbrace said he was hoping for in the Summer. Since then he has talked about tight budgets a lot - I would say we haven’t used our money very wisely at all. Orr being allowed to leave is a good example. The existing squad won’t be competitive imo, not least as a few other counties will be stronger in 2024 having recruited aggressively. Still, no captain yet so maybe a Chris Adams-style signing is on the horizon. We will need it. Congrats to Coles and Carson on their call-ups. Coles has the potential to play test cricket. Credit to the club for signing him up long term.
