I see Jake Ball has gone to Somerset, I was hoping he’d come here.

Yeah i know what you mean but i think weve been bitten too many times and i think with our budget we need to be a little more certain the players we sign have a good chance of being fir to play more often than not.

Finn, Bopara and Garton going will have released a lot of funds, Jake Ball is the kind of player I hope we are going for.

Based on past history I am expecting a load of over 30s seam bowling crocks in the mould of Ball, Brooks and Gleeson who won't play 10 games between them next season.

Was told Garton asked to be released, wouldn’t be surprised if he signs for a Div 1 county. When he goes our most senior player in the CC would be Haines (FHP is older but obviously not been here as long as Haines) Just shows how much we need more senior players.
Most deals are done during the season these days as players can be approached from June 1st in their last year of contract so can’t see us picking up anyone of note domestically now. Hopefully we are going after a marquee overseas player or two.

Ive no reason to disbelieve we will make at least 4 more signings.

Apologies, both those players would be better than we’ve currently got. Carlson would be a good option as club captain as he plays all formats. I wouldn’t be against signing either or both.

If you do sign both, you then have the option to have 2 overseas bowlers and your best XI looks like.
Browne Haines Orr Carlson Coles Carter FHP Carson Karvelas Overseas Overseas
and the not playing list becomes
Hunt Currie Alsop Ward Crocombe Clark Ibrahim Robinson
Yes i understand this may not happen but when you see that team you fully understand the need for 4 or 5 new players which will keep the competition for places of a higher standard.
Weirdly FHP causes the biggest problem when it comes to balancing the side.

That does look stronger on paper, therealab1. My concern with the two overseas bowlers is whether there are any overseas bowlers available for the whole season. I've not looked at next season's international fixtures, but overseas players are better suited to the short and sweet T20 format as the games take place in one block. I think it's more difficult when players come to England for three or four games; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Fingers crossed, though.

Either way we need 2 batters and 2 bowlers from wherever.

Unlikely to play IPL or play for Australia and is currently ripping up the Sheffield Shield and well for us last season

Exactly the type of signings we need
