Feels like a demotion for Currie. Ward probably lucky to get any contract although he was showing signs of improvement in the shortest form towards the end.

Currie and Ward have signed T20 only contracts. A strange one for Currie given that he'll be at the T20 World Cup during the group stage of the blast next season. Don't understand this. I thought Farbrace only wanted multi format players; Mills being the exception. Bopara got the boot for his T20 only spectacles.

T20 requires a distinctly different skill set to the 4 day game. Some players are able to bridge both, which is ideal but why cut yourself off from the format specialists when you don’t need to? It was the obvious solution for Ward but our Championship bowling now looks even thinner if we can’t call on Currie.

Does a t20 only contract prohibit us from calling on either of them for red ball , if it was mutually agreed?

Rogers and Lion-Cachet awarded rookie contracts.
Still waiting for the big O/S signings to be announced!

Rogers and Lion-Cachet awarded rookie contracts. Still waiting for the big O/S signings to be announced! Did they promise big? From what Jon Filby said they were looking at having 3 or 4 overseas players a season that see Sussex as their county. McAndrew will definitely come back. itll e lovely if he brigns Smith with him too. Great to see 2 more highly talented youngsters coming through the endless Grubby Pathway system.

So far the recruitment has been a bit underwhelming. A wicketkeeper no one knew we needed (albeit a good one) an all-rounder who mostly plays white ball and 4 fringe Sussex players given another year to prove themselves.

I really dont know what your expectations are Joe, 6 signings within a month of the seasons close? I'd rather make sure we are signing the right players and take our time rather than panic sign. Simpson is also 99.99% likely to be our captain. Danny Lamb provides direct competition with FHP which is good. We are adding depth and Simpson we are adding quality. We arent far off as we knwo just be a little patient.

All I’m saying is I’m not excited with the signings so far. You say you want to make sure we are signing the right players, I’m saying we haven’t signed the right players yet.

Yet being the key word, i think part of the problem is the days of really sexy overseas signings are gone. This board was a good example, people were criticising the Smith signing.

I still think Smith was the wrong call. He came in for 3 games and just as he was getting accustomed to conditions he was gone again without affecting the outcome of a game. Had he not been here McAndrew would have bowled. Yes, great signing for the whole season but short-sighted signing in the context of where we were and what we needed at the time.

There is no scenario in my mind where signing one of the greatest batsmen ever can ever be the wrong call. What we gained out of that signing on and off was just incredible. I get its down to opinions and thats cool, but can you see where i see a contradiction in your comments, you want exciting signings but would take McAndrew over Smith. Youd prefer a practical signing over an exciting short term one. I do get what you mean but thats why you should be excited by the Simpson signing, it's a very very practical signing!

Would you summarise the benefits you feel we received then please Therea because the only one I can think of was some short lived publicity?
