John Simpson has scored 311 runs in the first three games. Coincidentally, his namesake Bob Simpson famously scored 311 for Australia against England at Old Trafford in 1964.

This smells of a fall back plan - ie we couldn’t get the new player we wanted (who would have been captain). Overall we have a weaker squad than we did going into last season. It’s set to be another season of lowly grind. Hopefully therealab will make me eat these words in October. Do you still believe we have a weaker squad than last year? Words will be eaten my friend! |

Do you still believe we have a weaker squad than last year? Words will be eaten my friend! It’s early days. I am stunned by Lamb’s contribution though. I saw a bit of him last season and he was crap. Let’s see how we do when we lose Ollie (not that he’s been a match winner so far). It’s a good point, Short Leg (formerly yikemardy). Although Ollie hasn’t done anything outstanding yet, batsmen fear his ability and won’t take liberties. It’s probable pressure will build on Karvelas/Hunt/Lamb etc to not only take wickets but keep runs under control. Long way to go yet but more pressure may fall on the batters who are performing excellently so far. |
