So the penultimate fixture sees us travel to Taunton. We have qualified for the quarter-finals but it would be great to get a home fixture.
Squad: Alsop, Carson, Carter, Clark, Coles, Crocombe, FHP, Hughes, Currie, Lamb, Lenham, McAndrew, Mills, Robinson, Simpson, Ward.

Getting a home semi final would be lovely. Currie in for either Lamb or Carson, the control he brings will be handy against a strong batting lineup.

Always a tall order to win at Taunton, and it’s unfortunate it has come to this. Hopefully the boys will play with freedom as there is no doomsday scenario if we lose.

We are batting first.
Currie in for Carson.

We are batting first. Currie in for Carson. Sensible change given we needed to do something to try and exercise some control over the number of runs we have been conceding. This is possibly our toughest fixture of the tournament.

Looking like we're going to need Glamorgan to do us a very unlikely favour tomorrow

We have batted so well in the competition this season, particularly when setting a total that it was inevitable the wheels would come off at some point.
We didn't help ourselves with three run outs (albeit one off the very last ball) and some soft dismissals.
The most frustrating being Harrison Ward. Yes I know that's how he plays, but a four and then a six off the first two balls of the over, do you really need to try and swipe the next one out the ground? Possibly take a single and reset?
Alsop gets a life and then puts the very next ball down the fielder's throat.
158-9 on a flat wicket and small ground is probably at least forty runs short. If we somehow win this from this position, it will go down as one of our best ever wins in T20.
Prediction, Somerset to coast home. Hopefully, I am wrong and if I am right our net run rate won't take to much of a hammering.
Finally, massive credit to Ben Green for an outstanding show of sportsmanship.

I can't help thinking that having the pedestrian Clark at the other end forces people to take more risks than they should. Just tapping singles through the powerplay is inexcusable.

Coles probably will be in a year or two time.

As previously stated, probably our toughest fixture in the competition.
Playing the current champions, full of experience in their own backyard on a good wicket with small boundaries.
We needed to be at our very best to have a chance and regretfully we were a very long way from being even close. In part, possibly down to our own inexperience.
We got a real lesson in T20 tonight. A reality check that probably gives a clearer indication of where we are as a team in the bigger scheme of things. Not convinced their batters even got close to full throttle. The positive is our young team should benefit and learn from the experience.
The real disappointment is having been in pole position for a home quarter final for pretty much the whole tournament, we are most probably going to fall short in the home straight.

Quite possibly, but and others may disagree I feel we are at least one explosive batter light. We have done surprisingly well with the resources we have and usually someone produces the goods. Hughes has been an inspirational signing, Ward usually gives us a start (although needs to work on his game management), Coles is an exceptional talent and Alsop has tonight aside been outstanding since he dropped down the order. Although Clark got runs the other day, I remain unconvinced and we are asking a lot from Simpson to regularly rescue us if our top order fail.

Most teams would say they’re at least one explosive batter light especially with so few A list overseas players in the competition this year (and maybe every year from now on with so many T20 competitions globally). I reckon Carter could be a high performer in T20 but he’s obviously out of favour right now. Meanwhile, we only bowled one over of spin tonight. Having watched the spinners clean up Kent last week I don’t understand why we’d choose to do that, especially as Taunton is supposed to be fertile ground for spinners.
