Campbell, Carson, Carter, Clark (C), Crocombe, Foreman, Hunt, Ibrahim, Karvelas, Lenham, Lion-Cachet, Rogers, Tear.
Alsop returns to the Hundred, Tom Haines, Fynn Hudson-Prentice and John Simpson are all rested for the trip to Bristol.
I suspect Hunt or Campbell to miss out plus one of the spinners. My guess Lenham. Tear to get the gloves back.
In the absence of the experienced players a worryingly paper thin batting line up with a combination of Clark, Carter and Rogers up top and a middle order of Tear, Lion-Cachet and the out of form (with the bat at least) Ibrahim as high as six.
Hope I am wrong, but I can't see that combination either posting or chasing a decent total. None of them average over 30 in List A Cricket, a couple under 20.
The term 'Lamb's to the slaughter' springs to mind. Farbrace hasn't got much wrong in his time as Head Coach, but not sure this is necessarily a wise approach to the competition or these young players development.
If we bat first, we could be in for an early finish.

As if we hadn't made it as difficult as we possibly could no Crocombe or Carson.
I did toy with the idea of travelling up the M5 for this one, but have probably made the correct decision to watch the stream.
It looks on paper like Gloucestershire first team verses a Sussex second eleven.

8 for 2 after 7 overs. Going very much as expected unfortunately. Indeed , Sussex 2nds struggling against Gloucs 1sts! Sing Dale 3-7 of 6!! I can see some logic in using these games to further identify which young players are developing fastest etc . However, without virtually any of the senior players then the danger is obviously 3 complete massacres and if you bat first then your bowlers probably won’t bowl too many overs anyway! So have to admit that we haven’t played at least 2 of our established batsmen. Expect our teams for home games will be stronger but do feel we have got this one rather badly wrong. |

It’s no exaggeration to call this a second team. The only players in this lineup that might make our first XI are Clark and either Karvelas or Hunt. The outcome is sadly predictable. Feel sorry for Gloucs supporters turning up hoping for a full afternoon of cricket.

Rather sad really. When we were putting out a young side in 20/21/22 it was because that was all we had. Today we had 4/5 senior players who were sitting out for no reason. I just don’t get the thinking around this.

Exactly, we've got no OS players for this and several others missing due to the Hundred, we should be playing the strongest possible team from what we have available and that by itself will give opportunities to several players who wouldn't otherwise be getting a game. I haven't even bothered watching these games on the stream let alone considered attending, it's complete nonsense. |
