137 is a big chunk of runs to make up, need a partnership in this innings.

We played the wrong team. Carter should have played instead of Hunt who has offered nothing in this game. Carson is too high at 8. We are playing three number 11s in Robinson, Unkadt and Hunt. Why are we so behind when Carson has bowled so many overs. Hopefully a fine for the captain rather than a points deduction will follow.
We need to score 400 to give ourselves any chance.

I think Carter may go 7, Simpson is that bit of glue at 6 we need. Know what you mean about Simpson, I'm just not a big fan of a specialist batsman batting at 7 behind the keeper. Prior did it when Ambrose was keeping wicket.

137 is a big chunk of runs to make up, need a partnership in this innings. Still a long way to go, but as Joe rightly points out that is a big deficit to concede on first innings. This was always going to be a very difficult fixture, probably the most difficult of the season. I hope I am wrong, but I suspect this game has already gone. Judging by some of the shot selection in the first innings, I am not convinced we have enough batters with the necessary discipline needed to construct the type of innings required to rescue this match. Not helped by playing an extra bowler. On a more positive note, the way the team stuck at it this afternoon in my opinion still indicates we will secure promotion. We will still be top of the table irrespective of the outcome of this match and Yorkshire and Middlesex will take points off each other in the next round of fixtures. The other observation that can be drawn (as stated in my previous post) is this is the type of quality opposition you will face week in, week out in Division One and our current group without strengthening will struggle to maintain a place in the top tier of the County Championship.

We’re not out of this yet. A score of 350 in the second innings would make it interesting. There’s also rain in the forecast so a draw is feasible. Like Devon says we’ll need to bat with greater discipline. It’s not easy for players to make the sudden gear change after so much limited over cricket but it’s well within our capability.

Robinson has a career first class batting average of 19.70 which is better than number 11 standard.

Weather permitting, I agree the game is probably gone already. which is as much a comment on Yorkshire’s team as ours. The next couple of days are important though. The extent to which we battle, play with our brains and generally guts it out, (or not) will give a tell on whether we have the dog in us to get promoted.

Ironic!!
Every other County Championship match this morning delayed due to weather, other than Yorkshire v Sussex.
Where is the rain 🌧 when you need it?
As I type, the first wicket falls 😪.

We need to bat properly. Too many stupid dismissals through poor shot selection in the first innings.

I would go further than that; it has been irresponsible as well. It is almost a "batting" don't care attitude. Such a shame and waste of talent. Undoubtedly a fine bowler; but a complex character.

I would be very surprised if he retains his ECB central contract. This would create a twofold problem for Sussex. Firstly, will he extend his current contract with Sussex that I believe expires at the end of this season? Secondly, Sussex having to pick up the cost of his contract that won't be cheap.

Secondly, Sussex having to pick up the cost of his contract that won't be cheap. Mark Wood will presumably not play any more test cricket this summer and Matthew Potts hasn’t (yet) justified his selection. So Robinson could feasibly come back into the reckoning though it does feel like a long shot. Meanwhile, the rain has arrived in Scarborough and with more rain expected tomorrow the defeatism on here is a bit premature in my view.
