As things stand at the top:
Sussex 153 Middlesex 147 Yorkshire 144
Getting a little cosy but we are still in a good position. Derbyshire are currently 7th with just one win from their 10 games which came this week in a 10 wicket win over Glamorgan.
The weather is set fair for the week.

It’s another selection quandary because I assume Sean Hunt won’t be chosen for this one.
Unlike against Yorkshire, a draw would be a bad result, so picking an extra specialist batsman feels like the wrong move. Might be different if we had an in-form batsman kicking down the door! Ibrahim would be a decent option but I’d be bolder and choose Lenham as long as we think there’s some spin in the wicket.
Clark needs to drop down the order of course, probably to number 5.

Lenham and Ibrahim both in 2s game My guess is Crowcombe or Ari in for Hunt as the only change

Hunt, Crocombe, Ari, Clark, FHP, Carter, Lenham, Ibrahim, Foreman, Rogers. Pick three from this lot most likely to contribute anything at all. That’s where we are.
My team: Hughes Haines Alsop Coles Carter Clark Simpson Carson Ari Robinson Unadkat
Clark, Coles, Haines fifth bowlers. As a bowler, fhp is currently no better or worse. Simpson/Clark/Carter order flexible Not saying it should happen but There’s a case for putting Clark at 9, as Carson and Ari have shown a bit with the bat.

The trouble is our batting as a unit hasnt performed all year so we have to find an extra one, the batting averages are slightly concerning. FHP is clinging on to his place. Carson was a pleasant surprise and we'll need him, Robbo and Unadkat to do the majority of our bowling in the next 4 games. Hughes Haines Alsop Coles Carter Simpson Clark FHP Carson Robbo Unadkat Its not ideal but its a team that needs to grind its way to 2 wins.

Was reading them last night, not particularly pretty and shows how our bowling has won us a lot of matches this year. Do we have any more games with the kookaburra ball?

Yes there are 2 more games with the kookaburra ball but I’m not sure which 2. I think it may be the next 2 because I’m sure I read somewhere that it wouldn’t be the final 2 games?

See that might work in our favour if results prove hard to come by. Although we do want 1 of Yorks or Middlesex to win that game.

I have a feeling Yorkshire will beat Middx and it will come down to the last game between Middx and us for second place. A win this week would help us a lot.

You are correct it's the next two, the commentators were having a rant about it during the Yorkshire game

We may also have an advantage in that in mid/late September teams needing to overhaul us might not get the points they need due to weather.
In terms of selection for Derbyshire, Carter is probably the closest to being the extra batsman if they play one. He did get 96 as an emergency opener in the home win v Leicestershire.

I'd be tempted to open with him and Hughes and give Haines a bit of protection. Could go Carter Hughes Haines Alsop Coles Simpson Clark FHP Carson Robinson Unadkat

If we didn't play an extra batsman against Yorkshire, it feels unlikely we'll do so here, in a game that's vital to win and with the kookaburra ball. I'm expecting a straight swap of Crocombe for Hunt or maybe an unchanged side.
