This is pointless now, I get that Carson is approaching a ton but it's really taking time out of the game while Derby are bowling negatively

The thing is Fynns stats for an allrounder off 22 with bat and 34 with the ball is pretty decent but not good enoug to bat 7. Decent session in amongst some very negative bowling and field settings from Derby. No more than half hour required after lunch. I think we'll bat really long but then I don't have the best record in predicting declarations! Well longish anyway. Guess the plan was to declare at Carson's century. What a shame he couldn't quite get there. Yorkshire have declared at almost exactly the same point which probably eliminates Middlesex's chance of a victory.

Carson has come a long way in a short space of time in red and white ball. He has won the trust of Simpson to be our senior spinner and suddenly looks like a decent allrounder. We spoke about Clark and Carter. Carson looks a better bet than both of them these days. Is he a future number seven?

Unlike Sponge it seems, I think he could be but he'd need to cement number eight first.

Four down for buttons but don’t be fooled . Madsen treble ton incoming Single ton at least, maybe he'd have got the treble if he'd had better backup. I'm guessing we'll bat again to give the bowlers a break but with so many bowling options the follow-on is conceivable.

A final wicket rearguard notwithstanding (it happens) , we should 100% enforce the follow on . It simply gives us more of a chance of winning the game. Re resting bowlers - if we were facing stronger batting opposition we would still be out there in the field for a while yet anyway. That said, I expect us to bat . It’s the modern way

Derby all out for 290, trailing by 317.
Anyone’s guess who comes out to bat after lunch.

Ridiculous to take them off for bad light at 4pm when the conditions haven't changed all day.

Some form young jack carson is in - I tip him for his maiden 10 wicket haul in this game, as the one to watch to bowl sussex to victory - him and his “spin twin” Coles have proved themselves to be very crucial on these types of wickets in the 2024 season.
JD and Oliver Robinson - Both proved to be unlucky this game, beating the bat on numerous occasions - only a matter of time before they hit their stride
